Random Priority Boarding?

Has anyone else received Priority boarding for no apparent rhyme or reason? I was printing my documents for the upcoming March cruise with my youngest daughter and I noticed it showed Priority on the boarding pass and the luggage tags. I am only Red VIP and we do not have a suite so wondering why else besides a glitch that one might receive priority boarding. Any thoughts? I am definitely not complaining!!

or curiosity killed the cat...lol    I was trying to see if there was something specific to my booking I could replicate in the future or if it was truly just a random event. In any case, I am grateful as I am sure my 10 yr old will appreciate waiting just a little bit less than normal to board the ship.

Happened to me once, in 2017.  I was gold in VIFP Club  but my documents had platinum on them with the priority boarding.  When I got to the pier I figured my card would still be gold but nope, it was platinum too.  I got all the platinum perks.  I was still about 14 points away from actually making platinum.  Next cruise I was back to gold on everything.  So, it was either a random surprise or a glitch in their system.

Was your cabin upgraded? or did you keep the same cabin

Did someone purchase FTTF for you maybe?

We have a Cove Balcony, the same cabin I booked. No FTTF. I have FTTF on another cruise and it shows FTTF on the  boarding pass and luggage tags. For this cruise they say Priority.

Are you booked on a Casino promotion?   A lot of times those have priority boarding included.

I did book on a casino promotion but did not look that closely at it while booking, just chose the lowest price one at the time. I booked all of my cruises on a casino promotion available at the time but this is the only one with priority boarding.

Well then, that’s your answer. You are getting it due to the type of casino promotion you booked under.

We were booked on one of the Mardi Gras sailings that was cancelled, and the same thing happened to us. After checking in, our documents initially said Priority. As recently as 2-3 weeks ago, they said FTTF. We didn't purchase FTTF, nor did our TA, so it appears we were somehow randomly selected. (We had casino offers, but none of them worked for our particular sailing.)

  • 3 months later...

So my mum, my brother, his partner and their child are booked into the guaranteed interiors.  Their rooms are not chosen at this point.  The cruise is in August.  My mum's not good with computers so I checked her booking last night.  On her booking summary, it states PRIORITY.

Her luggage tag doesn't include that word but it uses a red chevron.

"What's going on here?", I thought.  The cruise is for my mum's birthday so i wanted to get her Faster to the Fun.

I then checked my brother's and his partner's booking.  Again, they have the word PRIORITY on the summary.  What gives?

My mum's red VIFP having only done a 3-night cruise last year with Carnival.  My brother and his partner and their child have never done a cruise at all.  My nephew doesn't even have a VIFP number yet! (He's only 3 years of age so doesn't have any casino offers!).  They'll be blue VIFP once on board.

They were never notified about any priority being offered.

They all booked at a ridiculously low guaranteed inside rate back in February.  It wasn't part of any casino promotion.  How did they score this?

Do they have FTTF or simply priority boarding for embarkation?

If they had FTTF, it would say it on their boarding passes. It would have the FTTF logo in the upper left corner and their boarding zone would be "Boarding Zone FTTF." Their luggage tags would also have the FTTF logo on them.

That's what I thought.  We've done FTTF a number of times before but the Carnival Australia have moved over to the US site for bookings, etc. so I thought the terminology might be different on the booking summary.

So what does PRIORITY afford my family members?  Simply boarding priority?

It's hard to say since none of them are technically supposed to be priority. Could be priority boarding for some unknown reason. Have them look in the upper right corner of their boarding pass. Their VIFP level should be displayed there. Maybe, like a couple others have said, they've mistakenly been given Platinum status. But if they have, it should be on their luggage tags, too. The luggage tags say priority for Diamond & Platinum. The red chevron you mentioned on the tags is just a deck indicator to help crew sort luggage. Luggage tags are different colors depending on the decks/cabins. But those are just a visual aid to help crew, you don't even have to print your documents in color.
