Brest to Quimper France

Has anyone been to Brest France?  We are only there from 7a.m. to 3 p.m.  Is the town near the cruise port?  Is it possible to get to Quimper in that amount of time?

The bus and train schedules from Brest to Quimper are not very frequent.  We'd like to avoid the cruise ship tour to Quimper and find our own way from Brest to Quimper (and back).

 

Anyone done this?

While we have not done this (yet) we would likely rent a car and drive ourselves.  There are multiple rental car agencies in Brest and it seems to be a relatively easy 1 hour drive.  With a car you also have lots of flexibility.

We are going against our usual plan of never booking a cruise ship tour....We are using the cruise ship tour to take us to Quimper and back...could not get comfortable with the train/bus schedules and her majesty does not permit me to drive when abroad.
