shore excursions

are there any "must do" or popular excursions in st. kitts?  never been here and going in 3 weeks on carnival.

Brimestone Hill Fortress should not be missed.

the typical "tour" involves

 

- ride through town to see the sights

- then head north to Brimstone Fortress (nice views of ocean and dormant volcano en route this 20-30 min ride)

- then head south (using airport route to by pass city)

- Timothy Hill where you can see both Atlantic and Carribbean Oceans

- Beach time on nearby beach

 

about 4-6 hours depending on your time at beach 

 

Ac minibus or open safari truck are typically available 15 USD pp and up depending on group size.

(Brimstone Fotress entrace fee of 10 USD is extra)

I haven't seen prices anywhere near that online, is that if you just book something on the pier?

Yes. 

Supply/Demand, ability to measure the driver and your negotiating skills come into play.

We had planned to book online from the often recommended tour operator whose quote was in 50-60 USD range pp.

 

At port almost everyone was offering the same tour for 25 to begin with and 20 with minimal counteroffer efforts.

15 required some more bargianning.

(only reason I continued with it was that we were waiting for few people in the party to join)

These are hard working poor people. You do not want to bargain too hard.

We ended up giving hefty tip to bring smile on his face.

 

Liked this island more than Antigua or St . Lucia.
