Block party

It means that on a select day (and this is mentioned in your daily paper, the Herald) you are supposed to gather outside of your suite in the hallway and get to know your neighbors. Drinks and served and some of the key officers/entertainment crew make the rounds and socialize. My main problem with this is it is usually held just when I am getting dressed and so I always have to decide whether to skip it or not. And if I decide to attend then I have the choice of getting dressed early or getting dressed later. As either usually works with other plans we have we usually end up giving it a pass.

Chairsin's description is totally accurate.  The Block Party is held at an awkward time when people are changing for evening and dinner.  The first time we encountered it on a SB cruise, I intended to skip it, but my husband insisted that we attend.  As it turned out, he went out to the party and I joined after hurriedly getting dressed for dinner.  We met some great people who were people we did things with the rest of the cruise.  On our cruise last summer, we attended the block party and met our ship next-door neighbor who also became a good friend.  So---I am inclined to attend the Block Party now.  It you attend, and don't care for it, you can always just walk on down the hall and go somewhere else and no one will think anything about it.  I know a lot of people think it is very hokey.  I can see that it sort of is hokey, but still is a way to meet people you might not meet otherwise.

It's hokey but lots of fun. Come as you are BUT NOT NUDE

I once came walking back from a massage at the spa in a bathrobe and slippers during the block party and obviously just as the Captain and some Officers were socialising with our neighbours....

I've returned from the gym when the party is going on and after a long run I tend to have .. err ... perspired quite a lot. Trying to get down the corridor lined with people keeping the maximum distance possible for propriety was quite difficult.

We have always attended on each segment of our long cruises, even though my DH is somewhat introverted.  Once he has a drink in his hand, it's all good.  And we always make sweet connections with folks we end up sharing a meal with later in the cruise.  A nice ice breaker, even if it is corny and hokey.

Hi Bob Ross.    Drinks and nibbles are served along the corridors and the Captain, and maybe other officers,  meet the guests and the guests meet their neighbours.  .   It is really a pleasant half an hour although I agree it is at a time when we all preparing for our evening activities.     There is no obligation to attend, but give it a go do.   J
