I received the Carnival Gift card refund via FedEx this morning only 6 days after canceling the cruise.  PVP said it might take up to a month.

So,,, looking back on it,,, go back to your 1st post in this thread and respond to the OP. What would your response have been now that you've "been there, done that"?

You gave really good advice about documenting who you spoke with including date and time.  We never received a policy from Carnival that I’m aware of so I called the PVP and she gave me the phone number of the insurance company to get the ball rolling.  Thanks for your help!

Three years ago, DH had a stroke the day before we were to begin traveling to the port for our cruise. We hadn't bought the insurance, so Carnival gave us a credit toward another cruise, minus $200?, I think. They requested a letter from his physician, and it was otherwise all pretty straightforward.

To the OP - I hope things go well for your MIL.

I’m sorry ahead of time that I am just so not savvy with the boards and cruise critic. Can someone please answer me about a bunch of posts I think the people were booked on carnival cruise… Did they take the insurance that paid/reimbursed them through carnival? Or was it some other independent company that they took out the travel insurance from?

We took the Insurance that Carnival offered.  We probably could of saved a few bucks using a third party insurance and probably gotten better coverage, but using Carnival Insurance was quick and easy.

Just to give you an idea... If you want to make the gift cards cash... when you go on the cruise (I took it you were just canceling them)... just add the cards to your onboard account and than go to the casino and bring that much up on a game play a couple rounds and than cash out... I did that when I had a lot of onboard credit left. My prayers with your family!

Thanks Jenni I’ll do that. Thanks for the prayers.  She has good days and the not so good days.

Well I received an email from the insurance company today and they are sending the balance of the cruise less the cost of the insurance.  They included the JetBlue airfare as well.  I was a little surprised they paid the airfare as well.  It has been 13 days from the start of the process until the email.  The hardest part was getting the Doctor to fill out the one page diagnosis.  The Doctor didn’t fill it out completely, she left out the treatment code and something else.  I figured the insurance company would send the form back to me and have the Doc fill it out completely.  My hat goes off to Carnival Insurance.

I had JetBlue insurance on a trip last summer where my wife fell and cut her head open on some coral on Grand Cayman and they kept wanting the Doctors diagnosis, but the clinic in Grand Cayman wouldn’t send it to me.  I had the bill and the clinic said that’s all I needed.  They paid part of the claim and finally I sent them a picture of her cut and a picture of the coral and they finally paid our claim.  It took a while, but worked out in the end.

The insurance company will not process a claim until you have canceled the cruise with the cruise line.  They want the exact date it was canceled.  We just went through this with Princess, who also uses AON.  We called the insurance company and they told us to call Princess or our TA to cancel the cruise first.  They gave us the website info so we could download the form for the doctor to fill out.  Then, we just uploaded the completed form.  They got all the booking, cancellation info and financials from Princess.  It was a super easy process and we had our check within 2 weeks.

We just experienced using the Carnival insurance AON last November when we had to cancel a 14 day cruise a week prior to leaving.  My husband had a heart scare and Dr. thought it best that we cancel.  First I contacted my PVP because there wasn't a number anywhere for the insurance company.  PVP handled everything through Carnival and sent the cruise cancel info to AON.  She gave us their website so we could file our claim with them through PDF files.  Carnival refunded our taxes, gratuities, excursions, bottomless bubbles and flowers I had ordered for the room.

AON waited a week after I uploaded the forms and then emailed and said the Dr. statement was not legible.  I uploaded again then waited another week and then received another email saying the Dr. statement was only showing half a page.  I double checked it, uploaded again and then didn't hear anything.  I contacted them almost a month later and they said the cruise refund was going out that day.  When I asked about the air fare they told me that since we purchased it independently from Carnival and were flying in the day before our cruise it was over their 14 day allowance between the time the cruise left and flying home.  What???? I said this was a 14 day cruise , we were flying in the day before and flying home the day of debarkation. AON said to wait and read the explanation that was coming with our cruise refund.

Cruise refund arrived but no letter explaining the airfare not being refunded.  I contacted my PVP who was flabbergasted about AON and their "14" day rule.  She contacted higher ups at Carnival and they told me to contact AON and tell them I needed it in writing why they were denying the airfare and then to send that to PVP.  I contacted AON and told them Carnival was very interested in why they were denying airfare and wanted my denial in writing.  AON put me on hold for awhile and then came back on line changing their story.  They said it wasn't denied but was being reviewed.  Amazingly I received an email from them the next day that our airfare refund was being sent that week.

Sorry so long but bottom line is sometimes you have to fight for your refund.  We did purchase it again through Carnival for our next two cruises but hopefully won't have to use it or experience the run around again if needed.

Several years ago our son had a terrible accident the day before cruising, necessitating we cancel the cruise. I called the insurance right away and they were so very concerned. They emailed me the appropriate forms in minutes and easy instructions.

The next day I had the doctors office complete the forms and faxed everything back to them. Even before I had faxed them, the insurance rep called to check on our son and even remembered his name. She later called to verify the receipt of the forms. The ne t day she called to say the form was approved and in the pipeline and the approved rate was $Xxx. She called the following day, gave me the check number and said it was already mailed. The service was beyond anything I could have expected, definitely not what one expects from an insurance company these days.
