UK Cruiser2 Posted January 22, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2020 Our upcoming cruise has had an itinerary change by R.C. This change meant one of our shore excursions booked through R.C.was also cancelled. They told me that the amount would be refunded back to my credit card, but this has not happened yet. Today I reserved another shore excursion and immediately the amount was showing as pending on my credit card. Seems to me that they can debit the funds quick enough but are not so quick on refunds ? norhel Posted January 22, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2020 Usually a refund takes about a week or so. Remember that the refund process is a different process than a charge. That's why you see the charge as pending the first few days. This is completely normal. This will give you a bit info on how it works. https://www.thebalance.com/how-does-a-credit-card-refund-work-4174421
norhel Posted January 22, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2020 You also need to add that it often takes Royal a few days to process the refund, then your credit card provider may use a few days.

mugtech Posted January 22, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2020 My most recent refund took 13 days, they were in the process of canceling 4 months of Jewel cruises so I expected it to take longer than usual.

So, you noted that the charge is showing "pending". You probably also noted that it can take a couple of days for the "pending" to change to "posted". Pending is a "hold" on the amount until posted. So a credit does not put a "hold" on a credit card, and it is never checked. It just shows up. The other item is most people buy online, the computer system handles the "hold" not a human. However a human, reviews and than approves the daily transactions, and releases to posting. So your refund is reviewed by a human, and depending on number of days, it will be posted. I never had an issue with getting a refund from RCCL. 1
cb at sea Posted January 22, 2020 #7 Share Posted January 22, 2020 Charges ALWAYS go thru immediately..."refunds" tend to take about 2 weeks.....even tho BOTH are but key-strokes......it will be coming...be patient!

That is not unique to Royal. Every merchant uses that business model
Armac Posted January 22, 2020 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2020 I booked some excursions online myself, later canceled one, and booked another. Payment was on my credit card the next day. But no credit. After about three weeks I called Royal and they said because I booked the cruise with a travel agent they had to refund the money to them and they will cut me a cheque. Figure that one out?

Did you book all the excursions using the Cruise Planner on RC's website?
Armac Posted January 22, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 22, 2020 I booked on the web site. Also I should say that the excursion that was canceled was actually canceled by Royal, don't know if that makes a difference. My Ta did receive the refund and issued me a cheque

Something else must be going on.
Armac Posted January 22, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 22, 2020 I agree, odd, but I did get my money back so I did not follow up. My Ta had not seen this before either
