Harry Peterson Posted January 30, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Let’s hope so. The actual death rate appears to be relatively low in healthy people, but the infectivity high, even before the symptoms present. Not a cruise ship I’d like to be on. I feel very sorry for all those passengers, most of whom, hopefully, won’t have had any contact at all with the two passengers involved.
Zombatar Posted January 30, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Hope they will all be okay but you have to agree that the passengers on cruise ships are not generally all that young or all that healthy so its probably one of the worst places to have this infection. The other thing is if they test positive for the virus will the authorities quarantine the rest of the passengers and crew for at least 14 days? Whilst other passengers may not have had contact with the couple that are ill, many crew members will have and thats how these infections spread. More here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/01/30/6000-passengers-trapped-cruise-ship-italy-feared-coronavirus/ 14 days quarantine for 6000 passengers if it's confirmed. This is a risk of cruising I don't suppose many of us anticipated - Norovirus is bad enough!

jeanlyon Posted January 30, 2020 Author #7 Share Posted January 30, 2020 Yes, if someone comes on board with it, it's probably worse than being out in the open because of the aircon.
Harry Peterson Posted January 30, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2020 https://www.cruiseindustrynews.com/cruise-news/22353-costa-smeralda-cleared-passengers-had-common-flu.html Common flu apparently. Huge relief for everyone on board.
