Carnival Casino Tournaments

Has anyone ever participated in a Blackjack and/or Texas Hold 'Em Tournament on a Carnival cruise? If so, could you tell me a little bit about the experience? I love to play but have only played with friends and never in a casino setting. Is it overwhelming or is the atmosphere friendly?

Also, does playing in these tournaments give you more points towards reaching DOU?

Slot tournaments are fun and friendly. Slot tournaments require no skill or strategy.

Blackjack and/or Texas Hold em are both loaded with skill and strategy. If you're new to the game and your lack of skill shows and you don't take criticism well,,,,, it can be overwhelming.

I have only played the Texas Hold em tournament.  The tournament cost $150 per player.  10 players maximum.  Also, you play on a Poker Pro machine. No live dealer.  The casino takes 50 % of the pot to be used towards their once a year tournament.  So, if there are 10 players the most you win is $ 750 and a seat in the big tournament.  I believe 2nd place also gets a seat in the tournament.

I participated in the $100k blackjack tournament on the Magic last year. It was fun. You are assigned a time to play and you show up at that time and your group plays. Then they take the top X amount of players to advance to the next round (from all groups, from that round). I got some goodies but only made it to the I think 4th round? The area where your group plays is roped off and has a lot of staff around monitoring.

Done regular Blackjack tournament on several cruises. $25.00 dollar buy in. you get dealt up to 7 hands if you still have chips. top chip value players names put on board threw several rounds. If you make final table same rules 7 hands and the person with the most chip value at end wins 500.00 and a seat offer on anther sailing. plus a cool t shirt and ship on a stick. you can buy in several times to try and make final table.
