3brothersboston Posted February 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2006 OK I know this is a tired subject but heres a tiny litte additional piece of advice. Instead of telling the operator at Royal Caribbean how much you saw your price drop, LET HER TELL YOU how much it dropped to. We have 2 separate reservations for the 4/2 sailing on Mariner. My DH and I paid $1269 each for a cat E1 (balcony) and a 2nd reservation for our DS/DD in a promenade cabin across the hall in a cat PR for $969 each. I saw the price drop on the RC site and called to get my cc credited, but I didnt tell her what I saw the price drop TO. (Not on purpose, I just didn't get the opportunity to jump in and answer as I was shuffling papers).... On their site it lists the E1 at $1209 today but she said "That cabin has been repriced at $1109"....same thing with the promenade. We paid $969, it was listed on their site today for $899 and she gave it to me for $799. So some advice? DONT TELL THEM what you saw it listed for, let them TELL YOU what it is priced at. Let them volunteer the information. I was thrilled at the possibility of a $260 credit but we got $660 credit. Yay for us! Hope this helps some of you today. DFritz Posted February 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Congratulations!! Believe it or not, some people are to shy to call and ask for the reduction.
3brothersboston Posted February 6, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Oh my goodness, it is So NOT like me to be shy! I'm the one at the grocery store the next day when the bread is moldy asking for my $2 back ;) I guess it's all how you look at it. It's your money, you may as well make it work to it's fullest!:D

emilygrace Posted February 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2006 3brothersboston....for what they charge for bread these days, you SHOULD demand your money back!!! That being said, congrats on your RCL refund. I have yet to book a cruise where the price goes down. On our upcoming Jewel cruise we have a balcony cabin and all of those are sold out, along with all categories above it. AND the oceanviews are going for $550 more per person than we paid for our balcony cabin! And people thought I was crazy for booking 15 months out!!! Those balconies were snapped up the first month this cruise was on the schedule.
shipknotshore Posted February 6, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2006 3brothers: Congratulations - you can really do some shopping now !!!!! emilygrace: I know what you mean - Haven't gotten any price drops yet. We too are sailing on the Jewel and our Cat. room is sold out along with almost the entire ship. Guess the likelyhood of any price drop is NIL. Although it would be a wonderful bonus to have a price drop, I was satisfied with the price posted or I wouldn't have booked. I'm just jealous of those who DO get those unexpected price drops - and am happy that the cruise line does give credits. Someday......
MLG4MEE Posted February 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 6, 2006 We have a group of 31 going on the Explorer on March 5th. A few months ago I was checking RCCL prices for our trip and saw the prices had dropped. Called RCCL and they said to call our TA. The TA was called and our whole group got the new lower prices. We have the Promanade Room and we recieved a $300 credit on our credit card since we had paid the cruise off already. The others all had their bill lowered. Since I saved them all this money I'm going to be receiveing some free drinks on board. So keep checking and maybe you'll be lucky too and have your price go down. Alexis Posted February 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2006 OK I know this is a tired subject but heres a tiny litte additional piece of advice. Not a tired subject at all. It is good to post these price breaks for others to see. ;)

3brothersboston Posted February 6, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Whats so weird? Is that I didn't think the price we originally paid was exorbitant. We too booked right after spring break in 2005 for this 4/2/06 Mariner cruise and looking on their site today it doesnt look sold out at all. No suites however, and not many 4 ppl/room arrangements left. In addition, somewhere on this board a few weeks ago I think I read that when final payment becomes due that TONS of folks back out. Then lots of rooms become available then they try to scramble to fill up the ship. I also read that if you aren't totally thrilled with your original room selection to wait for this interesting time window then when people start cancelling you can scoop up their cancelled room and switch cabins. My DH is SOOOO proud of me. I hope my luck continues in the casino and bingo on the ship!;) Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket today?
Andros Posted February 6, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Definately keep checking prices up to a week out from your sailing. I got over half of my original payment/ price back after our cruise in November of last year. I had seen the drop in price for our sailing 2 weeks before we left. I called the TA and sure enough our refund was huge. There was 3 of us in an oceanview and our original price was over 2500 and I got over 1400 back:eek: . It ended up being about 37.00 a day for each of us:D . Doesn't get any better than this! Needless to say, we had a good Christmas this year:rolleyes: . So, check those prices out, it will be worth your time and effort!:)
Dem920 Posted February 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Anyone ever get a price break on August cruises? We are doing Grandeur out of Baltimore in late August for a 9 night cruise and wondering if I should check or not bother for a summer cruise? Should I be checking now or after final payment is due? Just looking for some advice here. Thanks. -DEM920

dreamcruisers Posted February 6, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 6, 2006 :) How exactly do you check the price? I went in the rci site and inquired as to our category PR rooms, some are still avail but the price listed is still higher. Is there a special site to check or would I be better telephoning rci to ask? Leaving in less than 2 weeks!:o

SilverG Posted February 6, 2006 #17 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Tired? No way! We just got a $440 discount on our Oct 14 cruise on the Voyager. Checked RCI website, when I saw that the price had dropped, I contacted our TA, and had her check. This was evidently the first time she'd done this, but she called back and let me know my new, lower price. I posted on our M&M thread, one other got a similar price break, another used the break to upgrade. We're all stoked!
Nanatravel Posted February 6, 2006 #18 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Often these price reductions happen after final payment is made and people/groups have to release unsold cabins. However, SilverG proved this is not always the case. Just keep checking. On a group cruise on Princess, we got an $800 per cabin credit for every cabin due to price reductions. Those cruisers where very happy! Bon Voyage
3brothersboston Posted February 7, 2006 Author #19 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Dreamcruisers, As I said, just call their 1-800 number listed on the RC site. Do NOT say, "I saw that the price dropped to $799" but say "I saw that the price dropped on your website. Would you please credit my credit card the difference?" Let them tell you what they can do, as in my case, they gave me even more than I saw on the site! Still reeling from our good fortune today! rzrback Posted February 7, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Aren't price drops great.:p We originally had two connecting D1 cabins booked but due to price drops of $900 total we now have connecting junior suites and still have $300 left due to the price drops. I check every day and hope for yet another drop. By the way...we sail on 3-19 out of Galveston which is springbreak for us but the week after most Texas schools' break. mringenoldus Posted February 7, 2006 #21 Share Posted February 7, 2006 SilverG has been checking our cruise regularly. The morning after he notified me, I had the new confirmation quote from my TA. He has proved that nobody can watch your booking as well as you can yourself!

mringenoldus Posted February 7, 2006 #23 Share Posted February 7, 2006 That's wonderful! They will enjoy the extra room. RCCL seems to have a number of price reductions out there right now. pwrbrok35 Posted February 7, 2006 #24 Share Posted February 7, 2006 I too just called and got $280 back on the mariner for 3-12. the actual website did not show that much but he told me they had an extra discount for Arizona residents. It does pay to keep checking. Now I have more beer money.
