Will There Be Any Cruising At All In 2021?

Yes, there will be cruising in 2021 with or without a vaccine.   I am encouraged that there will be a vaccine.

Even without a vaccine, there will be medication to treat the illness, the cruiselines will have come up with resolutions for isolating the sick, testing and tracing will be improved.

Vaccine & therapeutics will be key to us getting through this.   Of some hope, I heard on the news today that a South Korea study appears to indicate that those who have had the virus cannot get it again.    Of course, just one study but I am hopeful.

Since it seems more and more unlikely that cruising will resume in 2020 I wonder what the thoughts are for 2021?

We have decided to cancel our April Breakaway cruise because it will be towards the end of the 2020/21 flu/coronavirus season and don't want to sink $4500 on a long shot in December.

I do think that cruising may start getting back to the "new" normal in the summer of 2021 if we have an effective vaccine and or treatments in place or the 20/21 season is not too bad.

This is just my opinion but who knows? I sure don't.

In short, yes. Cruising has already resumed, and it's not even 2021 yet, so yes there will be cruising in 2021.

We only have one cruise still booked.  Just the minimum deposit on it.  It's for a June 2021 Jewel Alaska sailing.  When final payment time comes around in February there will be a lot to consider.  Obviously I would want some strong indication that the Canadian ports are going to open.  Airfare cost would have to be at least somewhat reasonable and NCL would have to not be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.  Last but not least February is late in the game to expect to get reservations for many of the things we would like to do on the 2 week land portion of our trip after the cruise itself, i.e., train tickets, Denali reservations, ferry reservations, preferred hotels.  Many of those land reservations will be non-refundable.  I can't see myself making final payment in February if all those ducks don't line up.

In my opinion, it is very unlikely there will be cruising from the USA in 2020. Some of the wall street predictors I follow are stating USA cruising will begin to resume in June 2021 (they are just guessing like the rest of us).  NCL financial statements do not look promising if things stay this course. I hope I'm wrong because I don't want to lose my NextCruise Cert, but I would not give NCL a single penny in terms of deposit/full payment without the realization that it's a high-stakes gamble.  I'm thinking a merger/acquisition is on the horizon. Time will tell.

I've been 'hop-scotching' my Cruise Next deposits to future cruises.   So far I've moved CN deposits from my October cruise and January cruise.    Have some time to go before I have to worry about moving the March deposited cruise.   I won't make any final payments until we have a vaccine ready to go.

Thank you for sharing this. I wasn't sure how easy it would be to move nextcruise certificates. I appreciate :)

I book with Casinos at Sea and haven't had a problem.   Before you reach final payment date, would suggest you just pick out a future ship/cruise you want and call whoever you book with.  Then ask them change you to that cruise  (give them reservation # of cruise you are changing from. )   It won't move the promos you had at that time, but you should get whatever promos are currently available.

I haven't had any problem with getting my deposits moved to a future cruise.  Good luck☺️
