Cheaper price OR Lower deposit ?

Here's another reason people might want to book the reduced deposit. I did that for my cruise this past Feb. I booked it almost 2 years in advance and the lowest rate was Early Saver with a $50 pp deposit. Since with Early Saver, if you pay a full deposit and cancel before final payment, Carnival keeps $50 pp and holds the rest of your deposit as a FCC. What if you never get the chance to use that FCC? I like paying the lower deposit knowing that if for some reason I cancel before final payment, they won't have any of my money to hold as a FCC. FCC's are only good if you actually get to use it and not everyone cruises that frequently.

This is my current Carnival status:
I had a $100 deposit (early saver) and cruise was canceled.
They gave me a $100 FCC....plus $600 OBC.
I booked another cruise (for 9/2021) with a $250 deposit and got another $100 OBC.
Altogether...I gave them $350.  But I have $700 OBC .
The cruise I am booked on cost me $1327.  I live right by (walking distance) to the dock.
If the ship sails....I have a great deal. 

This is amazing, just like winning a jackpot in the casino!
Since Carnival is so generous, everyone staying near the ports will book Cruises in September and October and then hope that they get cancelled, so that they can multiply their money 7 times!!!

I don't understand your math ... there is no multiplying money 7 times.  @mstabbykats is getting $600 OBC for rebooking.  She has a total of $350 invested SO FAR, which includes $100 FCC (which is the deposit she initially paid).  Her total cruise cost is $1327, meaning that she will receive an additional 45% of her total cruise cost in OBC.

As someone else pointed out....it's $600 for 6 plus days; $300 for less than 6 day sailings.

I know people booked in the past...hoping their cruises would be canceled.  But, there's no guarantee Carnival will be so generous in the future.

As long as your deposit is something you can afford to lose (bankruptcy?) there isn't a downside.

Forgot to mention....I had a very brief investment in Carnival stock the same day I booked.  I gained $700.  So when you subtract that from the cost, the cruise is better than free!  ($1327-700=$627......$627-700=-$73)

I think in the current climate I would go with giving the company that is in trouble as little money as humanly possible and book as far out as possible so they don't come asking for more of your money anytime soon.

I would go with the cheapest cruise fare.  I don't usually consider a lower deposit a deal, imo.
