🔹 MSC states that they have worked with “the relevant EU-Level, national health and other authorities that Grandiosa and Magnifica will call along their Mediterranean itineraries to develop a comprehensive set of guidelines designed to protect the health and safety of all passengers on board our ships as well as ensure that local communities as ports of call and ashore destinations feel comfortable welcoming our guests”

🔹 A contactless experience - all guests will receive a free MSC for ME wristband in order to to move around the ship in a contactless manner which will also help with contact tracing.

🔹 Elsewhere social distancing will take place, less crowds with activities taking place in smaller groups and pre booking is required. Buffets will be assisted serving whereas at Restaurants drinks and meals will be served to you at tables

I just noticed that they stopped selling October 2020 cruises sailing out of Florida. Maybe an announcement is forthcoming ?

MSC (and other lines) face some problems.  At this point there is no reason to believe that the CDC will allow cruising out of Florida as soon as October.  If you simply look at the recent CDC request for public comments

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/07/21/2020-15812/request-for-information-related-to-cruise-ship-planning-and-infrastructure-resumption-of-passenger

they are accepting comments until September 21.  The norm would be to analyze the comments and eventually post comments and responses in the Federal Register.  If the CDC follows this process there is no way they will be ready to allow cruising in October.  And cruising out of Florida is currently complicated by the COVID-19 situation in South Florida.   There is also the issue of the various ports, none of which has expressed a willingness to again open up to cruise ships.

There are also some major logistical problems with a restart.  The cruise lines would need sufficient time to get a crew to the ships and that is further complicated by the lack of international flights and the difficulty of moving folks around the world and getting them into the USA.   We have a MSC cruise booked in December 2021 and have serious doubts that cruises will be operating (out of US Ports) by that date.

Oops  meant to type 2020 :).  On the other hand, who knows what will be happening in 2021.  This virus is not going away.

If cruising does not resume until December 2021, what cruise companies will be able to offer us a ship on which to sail?

Cruising in Europe looks likely to get back on track this year with all the news about TUI, AIda & MSC but USA and South America look a long way off with CDC unable to set any rules and the virus meaning no one can travel in or out of these areas and Europe won't allow anyone from the Americas for some time.
