rdsoxgrl Posted February 5, 2008 #228 Share Posted February 5, 2008 Thanks, Stardest! I used Microsoft Publisher (part of Microsoft Office Suite) for the newsletter, and started with the Watermark Newsletter template. I made some minor modifications to fit our info. I can e-mail you the actual newsletter if you'd like--just post your address. Cruise Critic won't let me post the file here. Hi Monkey1! Any chance I could possibly get you to send me the newsletter template you used? I am Kristen at kjacquard@msn.com. I also love your Save the Date "passport" magnets...what a great idea

shanna349 Posted February 20, 2008 #236 Share Posted February 20, 2008 Hi guys! All these items are way cool. Here's what I've done so far: First of all, my wedding planner informed me that Barbados charges an arm and a leg to ship gardenias and calla lilies to their island so I made my own silk bouquet and I couldn't be more pleased with it. The bouquet is comprised of the favorite flowers of the women in my life. Since I'm having a very private beach wedding, this was a way for me to bring them with me. Calla lilies were my choice, gardenias for my mother, stargazer for my grandmother, magnolia for one sister, and a japanese orchid for my other sister. Next is a bag I picked up at the local craft store (I think it's a Hannah Montana brand) and iron-on jewels. I whipped this up because I knew I would need a bag for the camera, notebook, gifts, passports, wallets, etc that we would be taking around the ship and out on the islands. Next picture is my ballcap. Yes, cheesy I know, but I seriously wanted one for the ship and sunny days. I had to make my own out of a blank ballcap from the craft store and rhinestone lettering. Finally, I ran into the problem of not having "something blue" and decided it would have to be my shoes. More exactly, my beach sandals. I started making these a year ago and have piddled with them off and on. The second one is almost finished. If you want any instrustions on how to make anything I've made, shoot me an email to shanna349 at hotmail dot com. I'll be more than happy to give you instructions and resources from where I found my inspirations. -shanna (my siggy counter clock isn't working) Sailing Carnival Destiny on March 2nd, 2008. MsrKS2009 Posted February 26, 2008 #239 Share Posted February 26, 2008 Is anyone making their own veil or headpiece? How difficult is this? Also, any ideas on gift bags/welcome baskets for guests? KatieGator Posted February 27, 2008 #240 Share Posted February 27, 2008 This thread is so cute, I love looking at everyone's craftiness! We're doing a small ceremony at home and then honeymooning on the ship, but I love sharing in all this cruise-wedding excitement just the same. I'm definitely going to borrow shanna's cute idea and make myself a 'bride' hat :)

mara93 Posted March 16, 2008 #243 Share Posted March 16, 2008 I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE IT! The runner turned out beautiful. Did you make it yourself? Would you mind sharing how? And, if you used a certain website for help? Great job!
J's Gal Posted March 16, 2008 #244 Share Posted March 16, 2008 Hi there, first of all thank you for all the compliments. And secondly, yes we made it ourselves. Here is what we did: We bought a cloth runner at Hobby Lobby. We used Microsoft Word and printed out our words in a font about 650-675 in size. The font we used, we downloaded from dafont.com, its called windsong. We used 3 pieces of posterboard that had a grid on them for alignment (got them 25% off at Hobby Lobby). We taped the posterboard together and then spaced our words accordingly and taped to the posterboard. We placed the posterboards with the wording attached underneath the runner (using our dining room table, we have 3 dogs, so we didn't want to put it on the floor). We used pencils and traced the words onto the runner. Once we finished tracing, we flipped over the posterboards and taped wax paper on the other side and put back under the runner. We used fabric paint and hand painted the words onto the runner using a very narrow brush. Once the paint was dry, we used a fine tip Sharpie to outline and smooth any edges on the letters. Pretty inexpensive, we spent approximately $40 total and spent about 6-8 hours working on it. We used a couple of websites for inspiration: http://roadtotheaisle.blogspot.com/search/label/DIY http://www.nycityweddings.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=339122&Highlight=DIY+aisle+runner

vowsatsea Posted March 24, 2008 #248 Share Posted March 24, 2008 We just finished our personalized aisle runner. We LOVE it! :p I thought I'd share the photos here. Your aisle runner is gorgeous! I'm definitely going to try to make one now. Do you think I'd be okay just using a Sharpie marker, and not paint?
J's Gal Posted March 24, 2008 #249 Share Posted March 24, 2008 Your aisle runner is gorgeous! I'm definitely going to try to make one now. Do you think I'd be okay just using a Sharpie marker, and not paint? I guess it would depend on the texture of the fabric of the aisle runner. We tried that at first and the fabric started to ball up, it wasn't smooth at all. I switched to the black paint and used a fine tip brush and found that it was not nearly as hard as I had thought it would be. We used the fine tip sharpie to outline the paint and make the edges of each letter look crisp. Good luck with yours!:) And thanks for the compliment on ours! :)
