Adventure os Oct 21 transatlantic

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Looking at the transatlantic from Southampton to Miami next October on the adventure.

I have previously worked on cruise ship and also did a week with marella with my family, so pretty clued up on cruising but I have not done a transatlantic or royal Caribbean before anyone that has any reviews, tips etc.

We have two kids aged 7/9 that will enjoy kids clubs part of the day how have you found kids club on royal Caribbean? ( don’t say by the stairs  at top of ship 🤣)

Adventure of seas what’s it’s like for families?

Finally transatlantic from Southampton any experience and what will clientele be, more older guest on the transatlantic than the normal cruises?

Thanks in advance

I have done a number of TransAtlantics (TAs) including both to and from Southampton. In addition to Crossing on Cunard, I have done TA Cruises on RCI ships similar to Adventure.

Point 1) An October 2021 TransAtlantic is not a given; it may happen, it may not depending on how well Covid is under control.

2) Passengers on TAs are definitely mostly retirees with the majority of RCI TA passengers being more 60s versus 80s in age. UK - US repositionings will have a number of “snowbirds” who will be going to their Florida condo for the winter (and sailing back on a Spring repositioning); even an inside cabin is more comfortable than 1st Class on an airplane, your own private bathroom, no baggage charges, and downright inexpensive.

3) I have never been on a TA with no children aboard, but never with more than a few children. Kids will get much more individualized attention in the clubs, etc (disclaimer: I have not done a TA with kids of my own). No packs of roaming kids. After a few days for better or worse most passengers will know who those kids belong to; the better part is kids will be viewed as individuals rather than just part of “those damn kids”. IMO kids and adults interact much better as individuals than they do as part of large groups.

4) RCI is definitely a family oriented cruise line. The ship will provide quite a number of activities. I’ve never been bored.

Hope that helps

Thom

Thom thank-you for your excellent  detailed reply.

Never thought about the home owners heading back to Florida, makes sense. Our plans are actually to head up Orlando after for week of fun at universal. Only 40 once!

Fully understand that this cruise could change or be cancelled, I guess it depends on permission to start long cruises again.Everything these days seem to be in pencil rather than inked in pen!!!

Two last questions:

In your opinion is it worth £500 to get outside view on translantic?

Does anyone know the current plans for 2021 refurb? Did I read correct that all 2021 refurbs have been postponed?

thanks again

Adventure of the Seas has already received a number of upgrades.  She pretty much led the way into what became the "Royal Amplification" program.  While her updates occured before that program existed, it was pretty much an "Amplification".  The success with the Adventure upgrades effectively created the motivation to launch amplifications of other ships.

They were planning on some minor changes to officially bring her up to the "Amplification" level but she is already mostly there unlike Explorer who has yet to receive very much in comparison and had her "Amplification" cancelled.

This thread from Adventure has many pictures that mostly focus on the ports of call but there are some Adventure pictures to be found if you skim through the pages.

She now has water slides, a newer kids play pool area and a new mini-golf course that spans two decks.

We did a TA out of Southampton in OCT. a few years ago.  Great cruise, a few overcast days to start and then sunny, smooth and warm rest of trip.  I would guess the number of kids under 16 at less than a dozen. Defiantly a much older group and the majority C&A members.  Americans, Brits and Germans would be the vast majority, somehow are table of 8 ended up with 4 Norwegians and 2 Brits who luckily for us all spoke English .  We have done 4 TA'S and all with ocean view balcony's, well worth it to us just for the fresh air and sunlight.  Only the port side gets daily sunlight, starboard is cold and dreary.  Plenty to do for the kids on Adventure. happy cruising.  PS, we are keeping our fingers crossed as we are sailing Harmony from Barcelona to Florida next Oct. if all goes well.

Aplogies for the delay. Thanks for the information. Are kids would be happy with smaller group of kids.

Unfortunately this cruise is not taken any new bookings like all others over 7 days heading to USA before October. Will just have to wait and see if it returns, gets altered or cancelled (hopefully not)
