It always reminds me that there are worse things to go through. DH and I were privileged to visit there when we were in Amsterdam and boy those stairs are tiny and narrow! (The ones hidden). When I got there it really hit home for me. I was glad to go but it was probably one of the most touching moments I have had touring along with Juno Beach. What they went through for so many days. We really shouldn’t complain I keep reminding myself. I have toured the Anne Frank house twice with students and was planning to take my sister there last summer. We're trying for next September, but not holding our breath. Another very somber experience was visiting Dachau near Munich. I have been there with students and with my parents. When I visited with students it was always a silent ride back to the hotel. What we are going through is nothing compared to that. Today I found out two people I have worked with have COVID. Hopefully, they will have mild cases. Have any of you heard the song by Peter, Paul and Mary called Have You Been to Jail for Justice? I know the author of the song and she just passed away from COVID - Anne Feeney. I spent the whole day working on my presentation and then the Zoom was cancelled. Grrr. It will be rescheduled. That will give me time to agonize over it again. 6

They must visit a foreign port. They could only do this if they are registered as a US ship. See below link. Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886 - Wikipedia Oh ok, I thought it just applied if the cruise started and ended in the same port so it surely looks like Alaska is out until 2022
cruzn single Posted February 5, 2021 #104 Share Posted February 5, 2021 Today's discussion of Anne Frank has been most enlightening and also very thought provoking. I am sorry that my TA last Spring was cancelled, as it would have ended in Amsterdam, and there were several things I really wanted to do there. Oh well, that is for another day and time. In the meantime, we will get through this knowing that others have gone through much more strife and hardship/sacrific than we are at this moment. Thank you to everyone for a good dose of reality today.

I went to Dachau in 2014 when I was in Germany. A very sobering and sad experience to be sure.
Horizon chaser 1957 Posted February 5, 2021 #106 Share Posted February 5, 2021 (edited) Good, I’m, evening, all! Well I’m REALLY late to the party today! We were driving a friend to the doctors, then for X-rays this morning, then suddenly the rest of the day pounced on me without warning. Its not surprising that Canada has extended the cruise ship ban. Our only real cruise season is Alaska and Canada New England in the summer/ early fall. Since these both end before they expect the vaccine to be fully rolled out here, the cancellation was inevitable. We are back to steady rain here, but might get snow for Sunday, which would be a change. @mamaofamiI am so sorry to hear of your friend’s passing. A year ago today the Amsterdam was rounding Cape Horn. The weather cooperated, so we sailed around the entire island and then up to dock in Ushuaia in the evening. . Sunrise as we approach South America. Our first glimpse of Cape Horn from the Atlantic side. And again from the Pacific side. And the lighthouse on the Cape itself. Puerto Williams in Chile heading north. The beautiful teal water there. Back in Argentina, at Ushuaia for an overnight stay. Sunset over the mountains of Tierra Del Fuego. The lights of Ushuaia at night. And finally, if you wondered what day it was: Happy Thursday!
