marazul Posted March 1, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2021 For all archaeology nerds out there this is a fascinating mini-documentary on Baiae produced by the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p093gtp2/a-roman-city-at-the-bottom-of-the-sea

Rare cruisemom42 Posted March 1, 2021 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) PBS also featured Baiae a couple of years ago on their "Secrets of the Dead" episode titled "Nero's Sunken City": https://www.pbs.org/wnet/secrets/neros-sunken-city-full-episode/3471/ What many people don't realize is that despite many of the remains being underwater, there are still sizeable ruins that you can visit on land, just above -- including remains of a huge villa (lots of the structure is there but the mosaics and any paintings are mostly gone) and a huge baths complex with a dome that may have inspired Hadrian to create the one for the Pantheon in Rome. Edited to add: Also some of the findings from Baiae (above and below water) can be seen at the museum located in an old castle/fortress near the site: https://www.around-naples.com/en/castle-baia.html Edited March 1, 2021 by cruisemom42
marazul Posted March 2, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted March 2, 2021 Yes, I saw some of your previous posts on Baiae. Can't wait to visit. We have been vaccinated and I am watching the European stats. Ready to jump over the pond as soon as it is safe.

I wanted recommendations on companies for a SCUBA excursion there.
