Hi all,

Just wondered if anybody has been to Jacks shack. Is it a small or big beach, what are the facilities and how much is the cost of the entry to the beach and chairs, umbrellas food etc.

Also is this a good beach to snorkel from ??

Many thanks in advance

Not sure if jack's is currently open as cruises aren't yet going to Grand Turk.  But it's a 5-10 minute beach walk from the cruise pier. No charge for using beach, although  they have/had chair rental. There can be seating at the bar/deck, but that gets filled early.  Yes they have food. Jerk chicken and burgers and such.  It's not really a snorkel type of beach although people do snorkel.  all along the sandy beach from the cruise pier.  No iron shore here.

I emailed them to ask about snorkeling. Not really much near shore. They did say when cruise ships are in port, there are plenty of boats at the beach to take passengers out to the reef and the wall. When we are in Grand Turks, our plan is to walk over to Jack's Shack, get a place to sit for the day, and find one of these boats to take us out for 2 hours.

I keep seeing this "wall" mentioned. What is it?

The Wall is a steep dropoff fairly close to shore but north of Cockburntown. Not near Jack's.  You'll need a boat to get there.  Most snorkeling tours make a stop.

The better place to snorkel, oddly enough, is out by the safety line close to Margaritaville, and not near Jack's Shack.   We saw a small octopus in his hole, quite a lot of fish, etc.

There is a cannon and two anchors out there also.   Depth for those is about 15 feet, but it drops quickly to around 40 ft where the man-made "pocket" was made for cruise ships to dock.  That part is usually under the safety line.  If you frequently bob up past the line, you'll be told to go back by either ship's crew (the ship is THAT close, maybe 100 feet away) or by a guy patrolling on a jet-ski.

Now, if only they'd reopen the cruise port.......
