Canceled cruise replacement

We are on one of the August cruises that HAL just cancelled and have opted to accept their 2022 replacement cruise. I spoke to our TA (BB store) today and they sent HAL the transfer form to confirm the request. I asked them to confirm that our 2021 price would transfer over to the 2022 cruise and that all our perks (HAL obc, dining, gratuities, Wi-Fi and beverage pkg) would transfer with the booking. The HAL rep could not/would not confirm any of this. Maybe because it's the weekend??? Also told our TA that we would not have confirmation of the transfer for up to 30 days. Has anyone received confirmation from HAL that the now canceled 2021 price and all perks would be transferred to the replacement cruise? Thanks.

I am not on your cruise but when our itinerary was switched to another ship with a different itinerary we did keep all our perks, OBC, etc.

The cruise was “locked” for 30 days and then we got our cabin notifications and confirmations.

The one thing I didn’t like was it was as if we had guarantee cabins and after carefully choosing cabins for the prior sailing, we were assigned cabins.

However, our pricing, perks, etc were all honoured and we went from a larger ship to a smaller one where the pricing would have been higher.

I am in the same boat as you 😉 but know a bit more on how this works. Unfortunately yes it will take at least 30 days possibly up to 6 weeks before they confirm you for the same sailing next year. Yes you will receive the same promotion you had for this years cruise and all the same obc. The base price of the cruise will be the same but taxes could be different. Of course there will be a new reservation number. The only thing they guarantee is the same category or higher. Most likely no the same cabin. In my case for the move over there are only a couple of cabins left in my AS category. I am not thrilled with what is left but unfortunately I have to take what they give me since my price is drastically less. If you had Air on the reservation and or shore excursions or hotel through HAL all of that will be refunded to you including the taxes. But if you had Future cruise credit from a previous canceled cruise that will be moved over with the reservation. Once you see it when you log into HAL it still could take them up to 2 to 3 weeks to finalize all the credits and perks to be moved over because it has to be audited by HAL. The key is to be patient once you have said to take the move over offer your reservation is locked up.

Our Alaska September '21 cruise was canceled and we took the 'same cruise next year' option. Our Travel Agent told us it would take a while to get the paperwork in place (think she said about a month). We got the confirmation about three weeks later and all of our perks were in place. No problems at all, even got the same two stateroom.

Hope all works out for you as easy as it did for us!

Our Alaska cruisetour was transferred August 2021 to August 2022.  We have a NS guarantee so we have no issues with a preferred stateroom.  All perks remain even on the land portion.  You will see a new booking number when the transfer is official.   The old booking number disappeared and the new one showed up on my Mariner account.

Our Aug 1, 2021 cruise out of Amsterdam on the Nieuw Statendam was cancelled & replaced with their brand new Rotterdam for Aug 14, 2022.  TA said everything will transfer over exactly as is, the everything included & airfare included perks, no extra cost/fees, since he said that most 2022 sailings prices are/will be 20 - 30% higher, so the 110% FCC won't be a good deal.

@kazu By "locked", do you mean that others were prevented from booking a stateroom on the cruise you were being transferred to?

Thinking our July 2021 Alaska cruise would be cancelled, we booked one for 2022 because we can get our insurance back if cruise not needed . DD and DS didn't have that ability. If the 2021 cruise is cancelled, they will book on the same 2022 cruise as we have - can't transfer as not the same date as in 2021.

By locked - yes no one could book that cruise - everything was frozen and we couldn’t even cancel it if we wanted to.  Once everyone was assigned the sailing opened up and it was available to book, etc.

We were all in “limbo” for 30 days.

You were lucky because they switched ships and those previous booked on your current ship were being placed on the ship they were changing you from. In the recent case of the Cancellations of the Nieuw Statendam and Volendam the offer is to move people to a sailing for next year where many have already booked so the options for cabins and categories are much more limited. HAL is not locking out the new sailing for bookings or even locking out categories, you could review the available cabins today but no guarantee what will be available for when HAL will start to assign people a cabin for those taking part in the Move Over. Those taking part in the move over is basically a "You will Get what you Get" those that were in regular verandah cabins on the Nieuw Statendam the availability is good you may not get your exact cabin but options are still pretty good. The Vista, Signature and Neptune Suites are a different story. Which is totally unfortunate for those that paid the larger amount, paid in full and not taking the move over to not get what they had hoped for.

Oh thanks Lisa for the correction.

Thanks for reporting your experience. Since DD and DS will need to make a new booking (rather than transfer) to be on the cruise we have booked, this sounds better for our situation. As with everything else, we'll just have to wait and see.

It will definitely be a wait and see.  I can honestly tell you that none of the 3 of us in our party were thrilled with our room assignments.  Especially after we took the time to carefully choose and then got assigned the last cabins I would book.  I was lucky as openings happened and was able to change mine.

Just the same if the cruise goes, it will be a good one 🤞

That's why we booked a "just in case 2021 is cancelled" stateroom for 2022 rather than wait for a transfer. (Deposit & insurance fully refundable.)

Me too 😉. And we’ll go on it whether ours is cancelled or not (or if Canada doesn’t lift the travel warning).

Great minds think alike 😉

Thanks to all who educated me on the ins and outs of a HAL cancel/transfer to 2022 option. Was feeling a little anxious about taking the cruise line's 'word' on the transfer request with no written confirmation. Especially since there is no wording in HALs most recent notification saying perks/price will transfer. It eases my mind to know that others have had the same situation and had a successful outcome. Must let go of my control issues!

We had a September Alaska cruise canceled earlier and took their substitute 2022 cruise. We had a casino rate and they honored it and we received the exact same Cabin. In March our June 2021 cruise to Greece and Croatia was canceled and again we elected to move it to the substitute 2022 similar sailing. Again we obtained the exact aft corner Neptune Suite and all of our perks. The BB company confirmed this with HAL and we received written confirmation. We had also booked a cabin for our daughters and they have been placed in a Guaranteed room.
