Celebrity Air when X makes changes?

We have a b2b on Equinox beginning Sept. 26 with Celebrity Air also booked, final due June 25. If b2b is not allowed and we have to change air, what will be the consequences?  I know some people have had this happen when a second leg has become a charter, but that is usually way before final payment, so no problem with paid air. I assume, when the change is forced by X, that there would be no penalty, but we would have to pay the going rate, which would be much higher I expect.  Anyone ever had a similar experience? Or have knowledge about the consequences to pax?

I can't answer directly to this situation but when the second half of our back to back was canceled due to covid they handled everything.  The original tickets were to return from Auckland but instead we were forced to return from Sydney 12 days earlier.  They rebooked tickets and then rebooked them again as transit passengers were banned from airports.  In fact we were next in line to check in for a flight from Sydney when we were denied boarding due to connection restrictions.  Called Celebrity Air and they rebooked tickets on a different route on different airlines without even a discussion about price.  Never was so glad to have booked cruise line air.

Just to keep this in perspective....virtually all airlines were making no-cost changes to reroute passengers.  The goal was to move people to their final destination, not revenue enhancement.

That no doubt was true but I ended up having to fly on different dates, from a different country, and on different airlines from my original ticket.  I was certainly a relief not to have to deal with that on my own as the airline offered no help at all.

We've experienced this situation twice since April, 2020.  Celebrity/Celebrity Air cancelled our air reservations and refunded the total amount....no penalty.  This is one reason we prefer to use Celebrity Air.  When we had a third B2B dates change, Celebrity Air booked us on the same return flight for the appropriate date.  There was never a question about it or any problem.
