Independence of the Seas heading to Galveston right now

Slow news day...

 

Independence broke her usual Miami to Coco Key route and is now enroute to Galveston. She’s currently rounding the Keys. 
 

Anyone know what for?

She got her first round right at Miami. It would be surprising if she went all the way to Galveston for the second round.

The Independence is probably heading to Galveston in anticipation for a test cruise.  According to local news: Port of Galveston and local health officials say they are close to signing a port agreement with the State of Texas.  Royal Caribbean recently signed similar agreements with Port Canaveral and Port Everglades.

Why would RCL bring Independence into Galveston and not Liberty and Explorer ?

because EACH ship has to do a test cruise if not fully vaccinated. So out of Texas, RCI can ask if the test cruisers are vaccinated. Once Indy passes her test cruise, she can head back to Port Canaveral to start revenue cruises. I've got Indy booked out of PC in January 2022 so I'm assuming that's where she'll end up.

Liberty scheduled for dry dock in Cadiz in July per a Blog story last month (might not see test cruise and revenue cruise for her until after dry dock).

yes she is.  But the “Blog” we can’t quote reported in a front page blog on April 5, on the 4 ships for Cadiz dry dock.  That article specifically stated July for Liberty.

I read another theory. Independence might be subbing for liberty because she is supposed to be dry docked? Good for Galveston, bad for Miami.

I was reading articles out of order again... I thought the one delaying the dry docks was after that one, but I see it was before.

 

I just need a ship for me in Galveston on July 4. 😂

Not confrontational, but any basis for that? Michael Bayley did mention specifically Pfizer for two ships he posted about, but like many  Americans, they may show up and get what they get.
