Which side of the ship? London to Rome

Recommended Posts

For maximum sun, most of the time the starboard side is west-facing in the Atlantic & south-facing in the Mediterranean.

But the same applies to winds in the Atlantic, so if the weather is windy, any balcony on the starboard side for that portion of your cruise is much more likely to be unusable. (On one cruise with that itinerary we had a stern-facing junior suite - gloriously-sheltered).

As per Bruce's comment, you'll rarely see the coast. If your cruise is out of Southampton It's worth being on-deck for the sail-out because there are sights both sides, ditto thro' the Straits of Gibraltar if Gib isn't a port-of-call. And if your cruise is out of Dover be on a stern-facing deck for unrivalled views of the White Cliffs.

I mention Southampton & Dover because only a few small ships sail out of London / Tilbury. Make sure you know how far from London to your port and your transportation options.
