Crusin till Im Dead Posted July 12, 2021 #1 Share Posted July 12, 2021 Wondering if anyone else has this issue and if anything was resolved? I've had a BOA Royal Caribbean CC for years, to accumulate Royal Caribbean points. Typical expiration is Seven years from date earned (money spent). I've accumulated points and used them many times. Free Cruises, and OBC many times. So my question / issue is as follows -- since Cruises were stopped, I feel that they (Royal Caribbean) ought to extend the Expiration Date of accrued points. I called BOA and they said to contact Royal. Royal Caribbean was 'short' with me, and instantly said NO, there would be no change to the Expiration dates... Anyone else have BOA points about to expire? Kirk

GJustice Posted July 12, 2021 #3 Share Posted July 12, 2021 The current plan says FIVE years, and that matches up with my records. Just cashed some for OBC and had to reconcile. 1

My Bad.... should have looked it up before posting. However, as I mentioned I've used them quite often, but earned them faster than I spent them. Therefore I'm sitting on 100k points, with some due to expire early 2022. Right now I'm unsure if I'll be cruising by then. So, I must say I was disappointed in Royal Caribbean's answer, and how flippant they answered. No listening to my thoughts, No reasoning, etc.... just a 'matter of fact' No, they will not be extending the expiration dates.... Is this Wrong? MikeBayAreaCa Posted July 12, 2021 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2021 (edited) I used the ones that were about to expire to put toward our February cruise. I’ll use more to pay down the cost and add more on board credit. There is no reason you can’t apply them to a future cruise. CSHS1979 Posted July 13, 2021 #7 Share Posted July 13, 2021 Yep, I lost a ton. 10,000 this month alone.😓 I blame the husband, he usually stays on top of it. Just reddemed them all for OBC on next cruise. Live and learn

Miloomar Posted July 13, 2021 #9 Share Posted July 13, 2021 If you redeem the points for OBC and don't end up spending it, do you get a refund? If so does it come in the form of points back to BOA or dollars back to my card on file which might not be BOA? Is cashing it out in the casino the safest bet? Do they still charge 5% if you do this? MikeBayAreaCa Posted July 13, 2021 #10 Share Posted July 13, 2021 I’ve been refunded unused credit in cash at the end of cruises. I’m not using as much next time so that won’t be a problem. You can use the credit to purchase things in the planner.

Cigar King Posted July 13, 2021 #12 Share Posted July 13, 2021 A related question. I usually cash the points in for a free cruise, as that seems like the best value per point. Am I missing something?

This is why I wish Royal Caribbean would be Pro-Active, as us BOA card holders are devoted Royal customers; and the should have / could have extended the expiration dates; bump everything out one year, or something similar. Ships didn't sail, you couldn't book anything, etc. And I'm leery to book and use points towards a future cruise, when I'm not sure when I'll sail again. The news talks about the recent sailings, but gives no overview as to what ports, were they allowed free rein at each port? Or Ship based tours only? Were they even allowed to dock? What islands? Just gives me a bit of sour-taste towards the whole thing.

Pretty sure I/we had enough for two 3 day sailings. Now I got $350 and some robes

Me too, as I agree... a Free Seven Day is by fair the Best Value, so my points sit long enough to reach 125k; which is why I have some nearing the Five year expiration
TYMAN Posted July 13, 2021 #16 Share Posted July 13, 2021 Cashed in 50k for OBC on upcoming Mariner cruise. Took about a month to show up in my cruise planner. Still have over 150k to use on our upcoming Allure & Harmony cruises. We're Prime, so no 5% charge to use in casino, so if not for beverages or tips, we utilize on the slots. I do find it odd that RCCL will extend our Casino Prime benefits out a year but not RCCL points.....

Well that is bad news for me, I have been waiting untill pts are enough for a $500 discount on cruise, but my statement/billing ends Aug. 17 and final payment is due Aug 30th, I guess that would be way too short of a time ... since it took a month for you once 😞

Since my cruise was still months away, it took longer since I'm sure other folks had cruises booked prior to my date. In the past, it was much easier to call then to apply online. For you, with the short time frame, you might want to call once you get the total points.
