Which Antigen test will NCL do?

 Share

Recommended Posts

I looked up what an antigen test was seeing that thus far NCL is saying we will be required to have one to embark and this was the result:

"A fluid sample is collected with a nasal swab or a throat swab, or you may spit into a tube to produce a saliva sample".

So which will NCL do?

I would much rather spit into a tube or have my throat swab than have someone other than whom I know is a nurse and/or Dr stick anything up my nose.

Just saying....LOL

My 3rd July MSC was a nasal swab, we took a small mirror with us and asking if I could do my own swab, they were more than happy to let us do it ourselves. I will certainly try this again with NCL on my next trip.

These test done at checkin? How long till results?Do you wait in cruise terminal until result is in?

Yes at checkin

15-30 minutes foe results

You are confined in the terminal until you pass. If you don’t pass, there will be additional protocols. And ultimately if you fail retests you become a statistic when they report you to the Washington Dept of Health and NCL will help you arrange for quarantine or a Covid transport home ($$$$).

I have used the BinaxNOW and it is very easy. It's done right at the front inside of the nose. Very quick results. Painless.

Agree.  We had this test done at checkin and on Day 6 on a Royal cruise last month. Quick. Easy. Non-evasive.

I had intended to include this on my earlier message. The instructions for administering this test are as follows:

Anterior Nasal (Nares) Swab Only the swab provided in the kit is to be used for nasal swab collection. To collect a nasal swab sample, carefully insert the entire absorbent tip of the swab (usually ½ to ¾ of an inch (1 to 1.5 cm) into the nostril. Firmly sample the nasal wall by rotating the swab in a circular path against the nasal wall 5 times or more for a total of 15 seconds, then slowly remove from the nostril. Using the same swab, repeat sample collection in the other nostril.
