Unfortunately, this thread talks about the Manta, but no information about HAL's clamshell, only Amazon's.

We have  NESTO beach shelter that we bring and set that up over the supplied HAL beach lounges. We have the medium (grande) size one and two loungers sit very nicely under it - prefer it to standard umbrellas as you are not constrained by the pole in the middle of the shade - and your feet are still in the shade. Unit rolls up to a pack about 20" long by about 7" Diameter - including the 2 poles. 

Just lay it out, fill the pockets with sand, put in the poles - and you are done.

The clamshell is more like a half pup tent. As @ktbraunsaid, there is a lot of shade and you can simply drag a chair up into the shady area.  I got a clam shell a few years ago and it was a waste of money, IMO.
