Dutchman Posted February 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I have been away from the boards for over a month and now when I return, I can't seem to find that block at the bottom of the page that says who is on the board at this time? Has it been taken off?
Old As Dirt Mom Posted February 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I have been away from the boards for over a month and now when I return, I can't seem to find that block at the bottom of the page that says who is on the board at this time? Has it been taken off? Yes, Dutchman, there was a server upgrade here a few weeks ago, and they've done away with that particular feature.
Dutchman Posted February 18, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I really liked that feature! I could see when some of my CCfriends were on line:(
longtimecruiser Posted February 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2006 I agree with you, Dutchman. I really liked that feature also. It was fun to see when your CC friends were on the boards.Hope it may reappear in the future. Adele
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Now all we can see is the green light beside a person's call man once you go onto a thread.
grannynurse Posted February 18, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Please explain "call man" and green light. I don't seem to have these features. GN
FlorenceItaly Posted February 18, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2006 When you are on-line(like now) there is a green light lit up by grannynurse(your call name). When you are off line, there is no green light. I hope this helps. Marie
grannynurse Posted February 18, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2006 But I still don't know what you all are referring to. Where do I find my name listed? GN
FlorenceItaly Posted February 18, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Does this help? Look at your post, and mine. You will see my name; ExaltHim, and the green light next to it Marie
grannynurse Posted February 18, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Thanks, You just had to get me on the right page. Thanks again, Myra
FlorenceItaly Posted February 18, 2006 #11 Share Posted February 18, 2006 How's the weather in Broken Arrow today? We had reservations for Tulsa(23 year annivesary) but cancelled them. Marie
longtimecruiser Posted February 18, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Myra, I miss seeing you on line. I just recently learned about the "green light" too. It is not as good as signing on and being able to see right away who is on the board. Adele
kakalina Posted February 18, 2006 #13 Share Posted February 18, 2006 Wow! A green light. Never noticed it before. Kewl... I do miss the who's on line list though. . .
RuthC Posted February 18, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 18, 2006 But the green light just means you're signed on to a message board, not necessarily the HAL message board. I, too, really miss the roster at the bottom of the page. I felt more "connected" to my buddies here when I saw their names. Maybe the powers that be simply forgot to hook it up again? capnjoe Posted February 18, 2006 #15 Share Posted February 18, 2006 It sure made it nice if you were looking for someone
stanford's girl Posted February 18, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 18, 2006 But no green light on might mean that the poster has chosen to turn it off. Some people use that option to read threads in "stealth mode". ;)
Sierrachik Posted February 19, 2006 #17 Share Posted February 19, 2006 I think the server runs better with the upgrades and personally would rather not have the names of CCers online if it means the site loads better and/or faster and works better. RuthC Posted February 19, 2006 #18 Share Posted February 19, 2006 The roster was removed quite a while before the server was changed. It would be nice if we could have both the new server AND the roster. There was never an explanation that the roster would be a problem with the new server, too. herb Posted February 19, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 19, 2006 was the "who's online" in real time?
DonLou Posted February 19, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 19, 2006 was the "who's online" in real time? Yes it was. Once it was removed, the board worked much, much better. I haven't had a white screen of death since then.
RuthC Posted February 19, 2006 #21 Share Posted February 19, 2006 Yes it was. Once it was removed, the board worked much, much better. That's not the timing I remember. IIRC the real improvement didn't come until after the server was sucessfully upgraded. I haven't had a white screen of death since then. I'm still getting them. Not as often since the upgrade, but often enough that it's a nuisance. Also, I still need to use "refresh" quite a bit to get to where I want to go. In my case, I've noticed since the removal of the Who's Online in early February, my computer response experience on the boards has vastly improved.
