rayandshirl Posted September 27, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2021 Princess is using this hotel for June 2022 for the 14 Day Midnight Sun precruise. Anyone stayed there before?
IEHL Posted September 28, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 28, 2021 We stayed there a few years ago before our cruise around the British Isles. It was a fine hotel, great location. Down side was it took several hours to get to Southampton. we also are on the June ,2022 land of the midnight sun. We have chosen to stay in Southampton prior to the cruise. check out the roll call for the cruise. There are several posts about precruise hotels. tuckerintexas Posted September 29, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Never hurts to check what the hotel would cost you on the economy rather than through the cruise line. The only downside is you would perhaps have to make your own way to Southhampton as they might not let you just buy the transportation. Even factoring in the cost of that, it could be cheaper. Totally agree. The problem with booking pre-cruise hotels from the cruise line is that you pay by the person and not by the room. It is almost always cheaper to book independently by the room. What I have often done is to go onto the cruise roll call with my proposed hotel and found other people who want to stay in the same place. We then hire a car to take the group to the cruise port. We can often manage to get one or 2 tour stops on our trip to the ship. For example, on a recent precovid cruise out of Santiago Chile, that is what we did. We managed to do stops at wineries on our Santiago to cruise port trip and also got to enjoy interesting conversations w our driver.. If we had use the ship transfer we would have paid more per person and would have gone directly from Santiago to the cruise port w/o any stops. A win-win for all. dog Posted September 29, 2021 #5 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Princess offers coach transfer from Victoria Coach Station London right to ship if you want to book your own hotel. They also offer transfer from the airports
jimbo1683 Posted September 29, 2021 #6 Share Posted September 29, 2021 (edited) It makes me cringe seeing the port listed as 'London (Southampton)'. Southampton is a city which has nothing to do with London and they are around 80 miles apart. The Grafton is an adequate hotel. My perspective is that most London hotels are a dissappointment for what you pay. You'll get far more for far less outside of central London - maybe even try staying in Southampton. rayandshirl Posted September 29, 2021 Author #7 Share Posted September 29, 2021 Thank you to each and every one of you for your information. I have been a frequent cruiser but have never paid any attention to the roll calls. I won't make that mistake any longer.
