Mariner Picture Archives

Krazy Kruizers

Recommended Posts

On our last few cruises, the photographers take pictures of those getting a new medals and those who already have them.

As someone was lining us up for the pictures, one of the workers from the front office on one of our cruises was taking down our names and cabin numbers and said that they wanted to be certain that they had all the information correct on the pictures for the "ARCHIVES".

Just wondering if this has happened to anyone before.

And just where are these archives kept with our pictures?

Never heard of any 'Mariners photo archives' but who knows. I am certain that none of us knows 'everything' that occurs any ship or in the company as a whole. There may all sorts of things that never occured to us. Actually, I'd be shocked if that were Not the case.

As to the photos of the Medal Holders.....we've had lots of those taken. Once in a while they are delivered to our cabin and we are happy to receive them.

More often than not, we never see them. On some occasions, we have gone to the photo gallery and would have purchased them because of who the Captain or Hotel Manager was and we would have liked to have a picture of us with our medals with that Officer and we could not locate the photo. We would ask for help and WITHOUT EXCEPTION, when that happens, we have been told to come back later.

Why come back later???? We're here now! The gallery was open and a photographer was standng there speaking with us. Why could we not get the photo right then and there. Never once were we able to accomplish that. We, of course, give up and why bother to waste our time coming back later. If the photo existed or we were going to get help by them digging it out of their piles, they would have done it then and there. They don't bother.

When I saw this thread, I was sure that was what you were going to speak of.

Hasw that happened with you?

It did not happen on the Prinsendam 2005 Grand World Voyage. There were so many that it was difficult to get a group picture, let alone get the names of those in the picture. The picture was taken on Lido Deck close to the pool and the photographer was set up on the next deck above. The weather was bad the night of the Mariner Awards Ceremony, an outdoor picture would have shown 300 or so Mariners saluting in a rather unique manner, so the photo was rescheduled for the next formal night.

Yes, we had a similar situation with a photo that we wanted, but it never showed up on the display rack. We inquired about it and were told to come back later. We did come back and the photo in question was on the rack with another photo of us right behind it. Apparently, when they get a request to locate a missing photo, they pull one that shows the passenger, turn it and the information over to someone that goes through the files and, if necessary, make a copy from the negative or digital file. Doing this during a time that the shop is closed is better than the photographer having to leave the kiosk unattended to go look it up and then probably have to come back and tell you that it has to be reprinted so you will have to come back later, anyway.

We have had many pictures taken. When we go to look for them - no where to be found. We ask - they just shrug their shoulders.

On the Volendam there were so many repeat passengers hat they weren't any group or "family" pictures taken. Just the ones who got their new medals.

But every time we have been on the Ryndam, those of us who already hold medals have always gotten a group picture taken as well as just one with the captain and the hotel manager. And we have always received them in our suite.
