Cheers rate vs Lower Rate help!

I booked at a rate with $200 obc.

There is now a Cheers rate $920.00 higher and I would loose my $200 obc!

If we pre buy the Cheers it would be $980! Yes I have to buy Cheers. My adult kids Cheers rate is a lot lower they got it when we first booked months ago.

Opinions please! This is for an 8 day Horizon.

So, the new rate would cost you $1120.  You would pay an additional $920 plus you would lose $200 = $1120.

Cheers rate is $460 more per person!

I was planning on saving the obc for excursions or specialty restaurants. I will think positive and maybe a Black Friday sale!

You two would have to down a hell of a lot of drinks to make it worth over $1100.  What I've done in the past is to preorder a bottle or two of my favorite liquor for the cabin.  You'll pay a premium for it, but on a per drink basis it's WAY less expensive than the Cheers package.

Why would you lose $200 OBC?

But then you probably should take a look at the Cheers Breakeven spread sheet and determine if you would be spending more than $1120 without Cheers.   Seems a bit steep to me.

Cruise Line Drink Package Calculator | Cruzely.com

Remember whether Cheers or No Cheers the alcoholic drink limit per day is still 15.

Is that $460 difference per person or for the two of you?  The way you explained it before, it was clear that you meant $460 per person for a total fare increase of $980, plus you would be losing the $200 OBC.  If that is what you meant, I don't think that we are having any issues understanding you.

Current cruise rate = $1,399 pp ($2,798 total with $200 OBC)

Cheers cruise rate = $1,859 pp ($3,718 total with no OBC)

Cost of Cheers purchased prior to cruise = $980

Increase of cruise rate = $920

Lost OBC = $200 (money you would have had, but now you won't)

Total cost of changing to Cheers cruise rate = $1120

Increase over purchasing Cheers prior to cruise = $140 (the difference between the two fares + the lost OBC - cost of purchasing Cheers).

The math says to purchase Cheers and not change to the Cheers cruise rate.

OK,  Cheers is costing you $51.90 a day per person , plus 18% gratuity on the entire purchase.  Pretty standard.  You're losing your $200 OBC, but effectively getting CHEERS for $48.73 per person per day plus the gratuity. Not a heck of a lot of savings.

Keep your OBC and just buy bevies with it. and extra.

I agree.  Look at it this way, they would be saving $60 on the cost of Cheers (overall), but to save that, it would cost them $200, for a net loss of $140.

Assuming, the $122 per day with gratuity for 2 would be equal to what the OP would expect to spend on alcoholic drinks, coffees, frappes, waters, juices, redbull, etc.

I agree.  Her question really didn't revolve around whether or not to buy Cheers, but how she should do so.  She said: "Yes, I have to buy Cheers."   It sounds as though her mind is made up about that.

Thanks everyone!! It is just frustrating my adult kids got the Cheers for $1,459!! But my offer was the lower rate and obc.

if both the adult kids qualified for the cheers at a lower rate  you could have split them up one in each cabin,   then both cabins would qualify for the lower cheers rate.   We did that with a casino rate  with my sister and brother in law for our 14 day journeys cruise,   just have to change cabins once on board.

Sorry I worded it wrong.

I should have said is the Cheers offer a better deal. After everyone’s help I am thinking it isn’t. Leave the rate offer alone and buy Cheers separately.

I wish they both qualified! I check them both daily. It doesn’t make sense as only my daughter gets it and she had less cruises then my son!

We highly considered cheers last month but opted out. I drank my fair share, I didn't hold back, wife had drinks here and there. Total bill was about $400. Saved $450! Glad we didn't get cheers.

The one cruise DH and I had Cheers on, we REALLY pushed ourselves and barely broke even.  We'll just buy our drinks and save money and calories! 😉

You chose wisely, klfhngr grasshopper, and you are making the right decision for you all. And you as well new cruiser. Our feelings exactly! 👍

Same here for me and wifey. I don't think I could drink enough to justify the cost, and I do love to drink!

Good point! We cruised in August and just had to pay Cheers since it was a rebook. That was a 7 day this one is an 8 day with 4 ports and $980 for Cheers sounds like a lot. Yes I love my frozen drinks but this trip I am torn. My $200 obc can still pay for a lot of drinks. I can always pre pay my tips. Bring cc gift cards.

She asked about the math and which was he best overall rate and not how much you personally drank on your last cruise.  If she want to buy Cheers then let her buy Cheers.....everyone has different drinking habit.  We get our monies worth every time.

Looking at the two....I would keep the rate with the OBC.

You are exactly right! Thinking positive maybe there will be a Black Friday cheers sale! The offer is there until end of January. We cruise in May. I would have to pre order a lot of sugar free energy drinks ugh. Decisions!

Yup....we are heading out in December.  I have not bought Cheers yet on the chance something pops up.
