Travel insurance for World Cruise (UK resident)

We are going on a Viking World Cruise next year and are after some advice.  We are UK  residents and are looking for travel insurance to cover us for 6 months.  We both have medical conditions, but these do not have any impact on us apart from having to pay a higher premium to be covered.  The cost of the cruise is also very high.  Any suggestions

Also any suggestions re house insurance as most companies do not cover for a house left empty that long.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Try staysure, you can separate the policy into cruise cost and medical, so you can get the cover you need for each. If the cruise doesn't go to any US territory specify 'excluding USA' for medical, brings the cost down a bit.

An annual policy rather than single trip may work out cheaper.

You might need to contact a broker for insurance, you're not renting it out but a landlord policy might cover you.

Can a trusted person stay in it overnight every few days? Good idea to have someone check it from time to time in case of things like water leaks or storm damage

Hi Yipes999

I would suggest using an online search tool such as Compare the Market or Money Supermarket, however once you find an acceptable quote, go direct to the respective providers website to check the price from there. Best advice is to declare all medical issues, don't give your preferred  provider an opportunity to wriggle out of their liability.

As its a world cruise, I would also speak to Viking customer service to enquire if they have any recommended travel insurance providers.

In respect of  home insurance I would in the first instance speak to your current provider to see if there is a work around for a premium. You can get stand alone policies that just cover for the dates you are away. Check this link out for advice.

Most of all,  have a fabulous time on your cruise.

nationwide flex account for £13 a month, which if a joint account will cover both of you gives you worldwide cover. There are additional amounts to pay for medical issues. Then there is a premium to pay if your cruise is more than 30 days plus an additional premium if you want cancellation insurance to cover the cost of the world cruise.  We found if much cheaper than other Companies we got to quote. We are doing a World Cruise in 2023, but not with Viking

Easiest way on your home insurance is get an endorsement from your current insurance company. That’s what we do.  Be careful if you try the “someone staying in the property occasionally” approach.  There are very strict rules and evidence requirements UK insurers now set as people trying this approach have found to their cost. Insurance contracts have a lot of disclosure obligations on the customer best bet speak to your home insurer and tell them exactly what you are planning. By the way, some offer more complex travel insurance for existing customers with home insurance so ask them if they can help.
