Enough that staff should be very happy with what they earn. Even if not US or European levels There should be no expectations of any tips over and above this , cruise lines should discourage the anachronistic system of tipping, it is something out of a class based past. Interesting view point. There is no way Cunard should deliberately discourage guests from showing gratitude to those who have enhanced an experience. By doing so, It removes one’s right and freedom to choose how to spend, or use, one’s money. Wishing to give a discreet financial thank you has nothing to do with class. Being “Old School” one feels it’s the right thing to show gratitude privately and discreetly, both on and off ships. One will continue to do so, as it’s well meant, regardless of any dissenting voices from those who purport to be of today’s culture.
North West Newbie Posted February 7, 2022 #52 Share Posted February 7, 2022 I think the principal problem is people worrying too much and stressing about what other people think or do. If someone decides to remove the auto gratuity and personally tip that is fine and equally those who choose to leave the auto gratuity in place and tip extra is also fine. We all need to take ownership of our own feelings and not stray into the territory of others. That said, removing the auto gratuity simply because of a belief that not everyone pays it or because the cruise line is allegedly making shed loads of money at the expense of their employees is misconceived in my view and certainly cannot be healthy for one’s state of mind.
