Rare cc-riderslc Posted February 10, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2022 I have been to Liarsville a number of times. That is where we did the gold panning. It is set up with several water troughs. After some instruction from the guide you are handed a pan already filled with rock and sand. It has been seeded with a little gold. I always ended up with just gold flakes. You get a small ziplock bag to put your gold. Let's just say I didn't strike it rich but it was fun to see how the whole process worked.

SightCRR Posted February 10, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2022 The folks who made a lot of money were mining the miners. You already did that with your cruise payment but didn't know it. To get the gold prospecting experience watch a youtube video on how to pan, then take a pan and taxi to Juneau's Gold Creek (Last Chance Mining Museum) and before you go to museum (which may be closed) stop at the free mining area of Gold Creek. If you want to find gold buy some on ebay to add to the pans to "discover" it again. sightcrr.
Northern Aurora Posted February 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2022 While Skagway is so closely associated with the Klondike gold rush it is important to remember that gold wasn't discovered in Skagway.
