CHK Posted February 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2022 I have a question about the cruise cards that the cruise lines use for your ID, ordering drinks, etc. On HAL ships, are they still using the cards to access cabins in the same way--as in sliding the card into a slot in the lock mechanism? Or have they moved to a different method such as touching the card to the lock or even using the Navigator App to open the door?
Rare The-Inside-Cabin Posted February 10, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2022 Newer HAL ships (Pinnacle Class) use cruise cards with an RFID chip in the card that opens the door with a tap. Everything else in the fleet, to the best of my knowledge, still uses the magnetic swipe cards. The RFI in the newer cruise cards will only open your door. You still have to present it to pay for drinks etc....
fkfad Posted February 10, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2022 The Eurodam (as of 1/26/22) required a swipe to open the door.
CHK Posted February 10, 2022 Author #4 Share Posted February 10, 2022 Good to know---thanks for the replies. We'll be on the Nieuw Statendam in 12 days! Our last cruise ended in Port Everglades on March 9, 2020--before all of the "fun" began.
Sea42 Posted February 10, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2022 The Nieuw Amsterdam has the touch open for the cabin doors, no swipe.
