LadySpoilt Posted May 13, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 13, 2004 Ok, ..looking for a little understanding here!!!! I am finally getting around to packing (flying out Saturday morning..so I am actually packing earlier than usual), and dear Hubby is having another of his "what are you thinking" moments. DO MEN EVER UNDERSTAND???? How is it that men think that a SINGLE outfit for each night will do??? LOL I have now managed to pare down my evening wear to 10..no wait...make that 11 outfits (I just thought of another I want to take)and DH isn't understanding my reasoning behind this. Pray tell, how can I decide NOW what I MIGHT want to wear next Wednesday??? (Heck by Thursday I may have nothing that fits anyway and may have to buy more !!) Ok..back to packing and watching Hubby grimace!! Sandra Till CONQUEST family and friends cruise!!! Bunkie103 Posted May 14, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I packed as heavily as the OP last year and when I realized how much I didn't wear I felt kind of foolish. My big mistake was packing too early. Then each time I looked at the bag I threw something extra in it. Now that the airlines are cracking down on weight limits I will be more careful. When we cruise from NOLA in October we will fly in four days early, so I have to arrange that time in my packing also. I plan to make a detailed list and STICK TO IT! Since my formal dresses are long the same pair of dressy black sandals will go with both instead of shoes to match each dress like I did last year. However you pack..wherever you go..have a wonderful time! Cotton Posted May 14, 2004 #12 Share Posted May 14, 2004 16 pair of shoes??? OMG! For a 5-nighter, I take only ONE pair of black strap heels and small black bag that will go with each outfit. I also mix and match most of my evening clothes. But GOOD luck. Betcha you don't wear half the shoes....? Ms Belvedere Posted May 14, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 14, 2004 But it seems that every cruise is different. One cruise I packed too much, the next not enough. One of our ports on the Sensation was New Orleans and I had not packed warm clothes since the main part of the cruise was in the Caribbean. It was 46 degrees and raining, I had to buy clothes in the mall to wear that day. After 6 cruises we have it down but it seems there's always one item forgotten. This time it was an evening bag - had to buy one in the Gift Shop. Packing early and keeping notes of what was worn or not from cruise to cruise works best for me. Happy Cruising! bethee Posted May 14, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 14, 2004 I am a list maker so that I will not forget anything. We have backed off a bit....yhou do not need a new pair of shorts or capris everyday. A differnet shirt yes. I use nice black slacks with different tops and then the two formal outfits. DH does not dare roll his eyes or he will do his own packing. He takes more than I do. We do keep the shoes down to 2 pair and a pair of sandals. First cruise we had two huge suitcases and two garment bags. After doing that agian last lear and coming home and having to be in bed with a bad back I cut way back. No matter what you take if you are happy go for it and just have a great time. Guest Posted May 14, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 14, 2004 It took me many years to figure out that women dress for each other. My wife could wear the same outfit every night of the cruise and I would never notice. Other women would, although they would be too polite to mention it. Therefore, one outfit for each night. Plus things to wear during the day, and in port. Each outfit, of course, requires a different pair of shoes. I still don't understand that one. These earrings, for some reason, don't go with that dress. Her sister went with us on our last cruise, and they had to make sure they weren't wearing the same thing. She complains that the shoes hurt her feet. That must be endured because comfortable shoes never seem to be in fashion. Don't get started on the question of bathing suits. And, of course, there are a variety of purses needed because the one she used last night doesn't go with what she is wearing tonight. All of the makeup, etc. goes into it's own train case. I start packing the night before the cruise. Because of fashion complexities that ony women can possibly understand, my wife starts at least a week ahead of time. The suitcases come out of the attic and are spread out on the bedroom floor. I trip over them. The cat loves to sleep in them. He's happy but the wife has to brush off the cathairs as part of the dressing routine. Departure day looks like Amundsen leaving for the South Pole. A huge pile of wife luggage and a carryon with all of my stuff. After 32 years of marriage and 12 cruises, I should be used to it.
serene56 Posted May 14, 2004 #18 Share Posted May 14, 2004 My cruise is February, 2005 and I have started packing for it. Not clothes but the stuff that we need for the cruise. Each week something goes in the suitcase. When the time comes I willt ake everything out and then add clothes. I am female and only take one suitcase and 1 carry-on- I learned long ago I dont need half the stuff I took. Yellowjacket1 Posted May 14, 2004 #25 Share Posted May 14, 2004 jgmpuma, I AGREE with you wholeheartedly!!!! My wife will start packing about 3 days before the cruise whereas I'll get my suitcase down about 8 pm the night before we leave. I reiterate that we men DO NOT UNDERSTAND women and shoes. How can any woman OWN 16 pairs of shoes, much less take that many on a cruise (I just counted she has 12 pair and I have 5 including my sneakers, hiking boots, and flip flops)? Ladies, if you're taking more than one outfit per day (not counting a T-shirt, shorts, swimsuit as outfit), you're taking too many. How do they come up with these ideas??? The only saving grace to all of this (carrying her luggage between ship and cars and hotels, etc.) is I have to admit, when my wife gets dressed up and we go to dinner at night, and then to the show, and later dancing (but why does she take her shoes off to dance??)-- I think WOWWWW!!!! she's with me!!!! and won't those guys be SOOOO JEALOUSSSS!!!! Then I remember my sore back from the heavy luggage, the "tif" we had about packing the night before we left, and I think "Boy was I stupid for saying anything, she looks fantastic!!!" (but does it really take ALL those clothes, shoes, makeup, etc. to pull this off, isn't there an easier way??? Steve Lord, I was born a ramblin man . . .
