Rare Tom O. Posted February 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2006 I did a search but I couldn't find any one recommending one island over another for sport fishing. I am booked for a December cruise that will make stops at Kona, Hilo, Maui, Nawiliwili, Honolulu, and Lahaina. If I was going to go fishing for say half a day, which location would be the best? I don't really want to go fishing for billfish, I would prefer a smaller species.

Well, I'll go out on a limb and mention that the channel between Maui and Hawai'i (big island) is quite well known for deep sea fishing. You can get there by boats from Maui or Kona. That said, if you are not going for the huge billfish, there are boats out of any harbor that will be happy to help you. Since your cruise is stopping in Lahaina here on Maui, my suggestion is to try some of the fishing boats that run out of that harbor. Just search in Google for "maui fishing", you'll find lots of possibilities. Hope this helps.
