Problem on The Joy ?

Someone on the roll call for the upcoming cruise (I'm on that trip) says they have a solid source on board telling them it's an azipod issue and they hope to resolve before sailing Saturday.

That would be me. I don’t want to try to update a slew of CC boards, so I’ll post whatever updates I learn on the Joy roll calls for March 19 & 26, the two cruises on which I’m booked. Please look there for any future information I discover.

As of this moment, there’s no solid conclusion on whether it can be fixed before the March 19 departure or not. I’m sure that Engineering is inside the affected azipod right now (yes, they’re that big) trying to draw a conclusion or (hopefully) working on a repair.

All I know about the Escape is what’s been published elsewhere: it apparently ran aground in the Dominican Republic (sounds like a bad pilot to me) and is docked there. A check of the hull raised questions whether there was damage, so passengers with passports were flown back to the US. Local authorities reportedly won’t let those traveling with documents other than a passport leave, so they’re still aboard as of the last report I’ve seen. The March 19 cruise was canceled.

I noticed you are doing a back to back.  Would you mind updating on the procedure on the "transition" day?  The day where cruise 1 disembarks and cruise 2 embarks?  We are doing our first back to back in July on the Breakaway and I'm not sure on procedures, esp with Covid testing.  Thank you so much!

Hi, Has anyone have an official update on this issue?

Nope. This close to embarkation day, I’d conclude that no news is good news.

Troubleshooting to determine the issue must have been done by now, and they’ve either fixed the problem already or determined that it can be done during the hours docked in Miami tomorrow.

Thats great 'no news' for the sailing toomorrow!

Agreed that it looks like a go, otherwise Im sure that NCL would have contacted the passagers and we would have seen something on here.

First of all, I certainly hope that COVID testing will be discontinued well before July. It’s already a silly requirement.

That being said, here’s how it works based on experience within the last month:

  • Take your boarding pass for the second cruise to Guest Services in the atrium a couple days before the end of the first cruise.
  • They’ll send an envelope to your cabin with an informational letter, luggage tags to transfer bags to your new cabin (if necessary), and an In Transit or Immig  sticker to wear on transition day (depending on your residency).
  • If they’re still doing them, you’ll go to the designated ship location on the last day of the first cruise for the virus testing. Wait about 10 minutes for the results and get a wristband if you’re negative.
  • On transition day morning, stop by Guest Services to get your key card for the second cruise.
  • Meet where the letter tells you at the time and place on transition day. They’ll escort all B2B passengers through security to check out and then either directly back to check into the second cruise or into the terminal to wait until everyone else has exited the ship. You’ll be among the first to reboard.
  • If you’re changing cabins, tag your stuff and leave it in the cabin - don’t put it in the corridor the night before. Stewards will move it to the new cabin.
  • You’ll benefit from a couple nice surprises. Unused internet minutes will roll over to the second week, as will unused onboard credit, since there’s a consolidated invoice for the entire stay.
