On a recent cruise we were lucky to dock right in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.  This allowed us to do a ton of exploring the historic city and its sights -- absolutely incredible!  Our port day in San Juan was definitely the highlight of our cruise!  You can read about all the great things we did to get ideas for your visit:

We spent a lovely afternoon in Old San Juan walking around and taking in the quaint sites a few years ago. Looked at this recommended site and will definitely bookmark for a future visit.

NCL port calls are in Old San Juan. NCL cruises starting or ending in San Juan dock at Pan American pier.

Thx so much!  Leaving for a cruise out of San Juan in a few weeks and we are flying in early, so we will definitely use this see sometime sights.  Do you think it is better to pay the entry fee at the forts or tour the grounds and move on?

I depends on how much you want to see and how much time you have.  El Morro you can see a lot just from the grounds, although I'm not sure if there is much you can see at St. Christopher's Castle without paying for entry.

You're welcome!  We like to just explore a port on our own, rather than taking a shore excursion.  And San Juan is perfect for this, since there are so many great attractions in such a compact area!
