Transatlantic advice

Hi All, 

 

I'm look looking for some info on a translantic for next year from Barbados to Southampton.   There's 15 night and 16 night options. 

Does the 15 nighter just give you a couple of hours in Barbados? 

There's quite difference in price between the two options so trying to get an idea of what I'm getting for the extra cost.

 

Any info much appreciated.

When we did ours we did the shorter night first and with the days travelling ,flights etc 

it is a long day and due to a London flight delay our muster drill  wasn't until 9:30 at night 

Barbados time . There was people barley awake and we were tired too .

The next one we did was with the extra night and what a difference , luckily no delay  with 

the muster and the day after we managed to go to one of the local beaches and later that

night were in a better state for the sail away as we were not tired .

Even now the musters are done differently ,you still have unpacking .

To us the extra night onboard was worth it to us as it was not as rushed .

Looking at the Barbados to Southampton itineraries for next year -this looks like Arvia K306 (16 nights) or K306A (15 nts). 

There is quite a difference in price - but it looks to me as though when you arrive in Barbados that first day you will transfer from the airport and then have embarkation.  Iirc that's in the afternoon - you could check the flight times. 

So if you fly in on 18th as the sailing time from Barbados is likely to be evening, that wouldn't give you much time if any to see anything of Barbados or even Bridgetown.  The flight on the 17th would mean you could get off the ship after embarkation in the evening should you wish as it's in port overnight - also gives you a full day there on 18th before sailing for St Lucia overnight.  Hope I've got that right and it helps.

My experience and thoughts exactly mirror yours Kalos.

Yes, looks like the 15 nighter probably doesn't even give you a chance to get back off the ship so probably worth the extra cost for a extra night and full day in Barbados.

I think that's a good decision - given that it's a Transatlantic an extra port day proportionally is quite significant.  You've also flown a long way so in my book, an extra day in the Caribbean enjoying the beaches etc is a winner.

We did the reverse in October and paid for the extra night, well worth it in our opinion
