Late night food

Sure, I totally get that pov, but...I am on a cruise, it's vacation. People are up, messing around, playing board games, having drinks, maybe just chit chatting with family. Why should I have to go get room service if I am hungry past midnight.

Oh....I agree.  Just pointing out they have no problem selling you food and delivering it but they can't staff a bare bones buffet late at night.  We always stay out late on cruises either at a shows or listening to the musicians while having some drinks.  A late night snack was routine for us and I am sad to see it go.

You can still hit the pub on NCL and get the full menu 24/7.

I will fully agree with you regarding the asinine decision by Carnival not to have anything available after 10:00 besides pizza.

But, there are 3 menus at the pub on NCL.  One is breakfast which I believe is 6 or 7 to 11.  The second is lunch/dinner, which goes from 11 to 11 and the third is the late night menu, which has about 60% of the full menu and has great options like their wings, which really hit the spot about 1230 in the morning.

I think it's a built-in cost cutting measure. People check the Fun Times, see pizza is all that's open. Walk down and see the line, realize "I'm not that hungry" and go to bed. It's a very poor guest experience though.

We're not asking for the midnight gala buffet to come back but something would be welcome.

Just order room service.

Oh Thanks. I did not know that. So they don't have it at all but now they charge?

The menu is different after 10PM. Things like fries, pizza, wings - all at a per-item charge. The old menu of BLTs, PB&J, etc., is still available during the day at no charge. This change happened several years ago before COVID, it was blamed on food waste.

We usually cruise on Princess so not familiar with changes. We have not cruised on Carnival since 2017 and we are to old to eat late at night. lol

. Thanks so much. I will let my son know.

It's a slow Monday at work so i thought I'd fire off a post on John H's FB page and see if he'd reply.

My question...Carnival's late night food options are atrocious. Pizza after 10pm is always an hour or more wait. Why can't Carnival get their late night food options worked out? NCL does it right with O'Sheehans. And stop blaming staffing.

Well, got a response from JH in a matter of minutes...

"First of all I hope to see you very soon having fun with us again and thank you so very much for writing to me. I’ve never ever in all of my time heard it called “atrocious” I think you’ll find the entire cruise industry suffering from a staff shortage thanks to the lack of these is being issued by the United States government. We hope that that will change. I hope we see you very soon and the pizza and all the fun and affordability of a wonderful cruise with us will be waiting for you. Thank you MICHAEL, sending you and your family my very best wishes and hopes again to see you soon. Cheers mate"

So I followed up with...

Blaming everything on staffing is getting old. If staffing is an issue, why the rush to start the ENTIRE fleet back up?

"I don’t want you to think that, I want you to think that we appreciate your comments so very much. But it is an actual fact, that we have hundreds and hundreds of crew members waiting to return to work and they cannot do so until the US state department issues of Visa. We’re working on this as you will see in a video coming very very very soon. Cheers mate at my best wishes to you and your family and hope to see you soon"

*Another lady, evidently a TA, agreed with my comment about staffing and starting up the entire fleet, to which he replied to her with...

"And the sensible answer is that we have reduced capacity on some of the shorter Cruises and move the stuff to the bigger shapes that have longer Cruises. If you would like to send me the name of your travel agency Pamela I will ask Adolfo to personally speak with you about the situation. Thank you so much and let me know and I will be here to help you"

...Anyways, I know I was being snarky but I think Carnival can do better. I love Carnival, we're booked on Radiance next month. I just think that it's pretty evident that it's a larger problem that JH thinks.

Meh, maybe I'm making a mountain out of mole hill, but again, slow Monday.

Topic looks still active with JH making another comment...

.....or order paid room service.

And it will still take 45 min_ to get delivered.  By that time it's not worth it and I'll just go to bed.

So plan ahead.  If you know you like a snack at 11 pm every night, just call at 10 pm.

Its not that simple.  If I'm in the casino and the tables turn cold, I'll leave. Then may want a snack. The fact that many people agree that the light night options are lacking on Carnival.  Just because you don't use them doesn't mean they aren't needed.

We agree.  If we suggested the ice cream machines and Guys Burgers were discontinued because we don't use them, we would be scorched to the earth and suspect the Captains would face a mutinous crowd.  DH thinks if Carnival wants additional revenue merely begin charging for a cone and require a swipe of the sign and sail card for operation.  Of course, with a 15 cone limit for everyone's health and safety.🤪

I still say that they need to have available at late night hours some crunchy spicy Chex mix type little bowls that they pass out at bars when ordering drinks.   Or some kind of cereal dispenser.  I hate pizza and it’s too heavy at night.

I posed this idea to JH on FB and his response was something about it not being a good idea because of germs.  Really?! You’d think I was suggesting we all share the same bowl. 🙄

Cost cutting justified as staffing issues.

Carnival could also do what many all-inclusive resorts have done for its overnight offerings - cold items prepared earlier (sandwich's, fruit, etc.)...

Ok. Now what? More useless internet complaints or choose a cruise line that meets your needs?

I'm a bit lost. vwrestler171 complained about something that was a problem for him (and others). You offered a solution. Vwrestler 171 said the proposed solution didn't work for him (and would not work for me either). I followed up to that point.

What does the above quote mean? I'm lost.

LOL....only on here could you have people judging others because they 'eat too late'.  We get it....you are tucked in bed at 9.....lots of people on the ship aren't.

As for this current move by Carnival, it is baffling to me.  We first experienced it on the Mardi Gras in December.  Once it hit 10pm there was nothing offered other than Pizza.  One night the line extended all the way down the corridor to guest services, at least 45 minutes to even get to the counter and that was at 65% capacity.  I get that the old midnight buffet went away, it was impressive but it was certainly full of waste.  The 'late night snacks' on the Lido was always steady on every cruise we were on.

I don't think anyone has judged anyone at all?

Just continue to accept cuts and paying a premium.  I've started looking at other lines and realizing that Carnival is not the bargain it once was.

People like you are the issue with Carnival.  If people don't blindly accept changes, you attack.

I've said it before, Carnival could quit serving breakfast and some on here would blame you for being hungry since you didn't order a grill cheese from the deli the night before.
