 The crew will stay with the ship during the repairs.  A logistical nightmare to spread them out and then bring them back all over a month or two at most.   Plus, there's always things for them to do onboard even without passengers.  Deep cleaning, cosmetic repairs such as carpet, upholstery.

I’m wondering if it was just a “chimney fire” from a badly sooted exhaust??  
Maybe it was in a re-gen cycle?
