Halifax vs. Sydney Novia Scotia?

Looking at two similar cruises, but with the exception of Halifax or Sydney in Nova Scotia, on the two different itineraries.  I've never been on a NewEngland/Canada cruise so it's all new info for me.

Any opinions?

Halifax is a bigger city than Sydney and would certainly have more to do.  More restaurants, more excursions, better shopping.  

What exactly do you look for in a port?  For example Sydney has the Fortress of Louisbourg which is a historical site (but Halifax has a number of historical sites as well). 
The best part about Cape Breton Island (where Sydney is) is the Cabot Trail, but you don't have time to do it all.  You can take in part of it.

Thanks for the info.  We enjoy exploring towns, historic places, hiking and nature as well as tours if needed to see highlights.  This gives me some idea.  👍

I've lived in both.  Unless you're determined to see the Fortress of Louisbourg (not too far from Sydney), I'd pick a cruise with a stop in Halifax if I had to choose.

Eh. There is Baddeck. Highland Village.  Drive part of the Cabot Trail. Alexander Graham Bell Museum.

Agreed; all require a level of effort/travel that Halifax doesn't.  I guess it's mainly a matter of opinion and preference.

True. 
i also agree Halifax is the easiest. And more likely to have something.
