How do you use a carnival gift card to pay your balance for on board expenses?

You apply the full value of the GC(s) to your account.  If there is a balance remaining on the GC(s) after your account is settled, Carnival will send you a new GC with the remaining balance.  We usually take gift cards with different balances and try to use a combination that most closely matches the balance due on our account.

Do you just go to guest services and "settle up" at the end of the cruise?

Hmmm ... that can be a loaded question.

  • Are you backing your S&S with a credit card and then wanting to apply gift cards to cover the balance? If so, then yes, you can "settle up" at the end of the cruise or apply them at any point during your cruise.
  • If you want to back your S&S card with the gift cards, then you will have to apply them at the beginning of the cruise (I recommend using the kiosk or applying them at the port to avoid GS lines).  Anything left after the cruise will be refunded in the form of a new gift card mailed to your home.

You have to back your S&S card with something, or you will not be able to purchase anything.
