Rare laudergayle Posted June 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2022 We are on the Breakaway this fall out of NYC Manhattan Cruise Terminal. We recently used Port Valet out of Seattle and loved the service. Does MCT offer Port Valet?
Rare mking8288 Posted June 20, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2022 Port Valet is ONLY available out of Seattle. It is not offer or available out of NYC or MCT - with 3 airports for outbound cruisers bound for flights, logistics and security considerations make it impractical and impossible. Three airports does make it a logistical nightmare…so it makes sense. Too bad as I loved the service.
Rare 1025cruise Posted June 20, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 20, 2022 Port Valet is offered by the Port of Seattle, not by the cruise lines. The idea being that most of the flights back east are later in the day, they take your luggage so you are free to tour versus sitting at the airport.
The Shrike Posted June 20, 2022 #5 Share Posted June 20, 2022 The two times we've cruised out of Manhattan we've just walked out of the terminal and hired one of the dozens of drivers waiting there. The second time it was an off-duty limo owner who was charging the same as the other drivers, so we went in style. I think it was $25/person to go to the Newark airport.
UKstages Posted June 21, 2022 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2022 you do have to be careful which driver you use outside the MCT (or any of the NYC airports, for that matter). many of the folks soliciting your business are unlicensed and uninsured. even that "off duty limo owner" may not have insurance covering passengers that weren't booked through official channels. (there's a great likelihood that he's not the owner of the limo, too.) the taxi and limousine commission has very strict rules governing the pick-up of passengers. and the designation of the vehicle determines the rules, in many cases. there is a difference between a for-hire livery vehicle, a for-hire black car vehicle, a for-hire limousine, a medallion taxi, and a street hail livery service. in most cases, those guys soliciting your business outside the terminal have vehicles for which pick ups MUST be made on what's called, by the TLC, a "pre-arranged" basis. this includes luxury limousines!
