Mikamarii Posted June 20, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 20, 2022 Hello Friends, We have a return flight leaving Sydney, Australia to Edmonton with a 10hr layover in LAX. We will have our two kids (10 and 8) in tow and trying to figure out what to do. I've tried doing some research to figure out the process. From what I can find we will land in Terminal B, collect bags and clear customs, then recheck bags inside terminal B ; exit the airport; go to terminal 2 where we will clear security again. We are thinking if we have to reclear security again we might as well leave for a couple hours to kill time if we don't have our bags with us. We thought about getting a hotel room for the day but we land at 6am and checkins usually aren't until the afternoon. Spending that much time in the airport with two kids sounds disastrous! Has anyone every done this connection (or similar) and can shed some light on the process? From what i've found most of the people experiencing this are connecting in lax to another destination in The USA; not another international connection so don't know of the process will be the same. Thanks!!
Rare LHT28 Posted June 21, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 21, 2022 You might ask on the West coast forum https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/315-west-coast-departures/ There are day use rooms at some hotels you check in early morning & the kids could use the pool etc...
Mikamarii Posted June 21, 2022 Author #3 Share Posted June 21, 2022 Thanks! I'll ask over there. We did find a day use hotel that wasn't bad for price considering.
iancal Posted June 25, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) One of our snowbird routines is to spend five or six weeks in Thailand/Malaysia and then fly to Australia for a few weeks. Our routine for flying home from Sydney is usually the same. We buy a relatively inexpensive one way flight from Sydney to HNL on Jetstar Australia (sub of Qantas and once or twice a codeshare). In the past the ticket has been anywhere from $300AUD to $350 AUD. We spend two nights in HNL, then take a flight home to Canada.
