I've been on four Carnival cruises. I keep hearing people refer to Carnival as having a "party" atmosphere. How have I missed this?

I've often wondered the same thing....and assumed it's on the shorter cruises (we've only taken 7day).

We've strolled over to the clubs after going to supper and the comedy show and it's like...where'd everybody go? Like do they go take a nap and kick the party back up after midnight?🤷‍♀️

I would say that I'd describe of the vibe on Carnival as celebratory!  Everyone is excited to be on vacation and have fun.

Case in point: several years ago we went on a Princess snooze cruise. I came home telling hubby - I want a do over... So we went on a Carnival cruise a few months later. First sea day we were in the atrium when the Seuss at Sea parade came through.  Everyone was clapping for the kids,  singing along and joining the conga line. I looked at DH, threw up my hands and said "My People"!

Like you, I want to have fun on my cruises, so I will join (or start) a conga line and haven't met a line dance I don't like.

Way back in the day when you only needed 10 cruises to get to Platinum, I did a 3 day and 4 day B2B to make cruises 9 and 10 before they switched over to needing 75 days.  The 3 day was from Miami to the Bahamas.  It defiantly was crazy.  Someone had told me there was a graduating dental class on board.  Some seriously great people watching that cruise lol.

Then the Horizon inaugural was I think a 4 day to Bermuda out of NY.  Crazy from the start.  Smokers on both sides of me on their balconies, swearing and yelling into early morning.  Finally called guest services on the cabin to the left; they had left their plastic coke bottle half filled with water and floating cig butts out on the balcony.  So gross.  I was surprised tho, but pleased, I think Carnival must have kicked them off in Bermuda.  Cabin was empty the last 2 days.

I wondered this same thing when I sailed Carnival. The parties are almost all between 30-60 minutes. I guess some people want a REALLY quiet cruise.

I have also never been on a short cruise.

I've also never been on a short cruise. We only cruise Carnival's longer itineraries 10 days or longer.

We typically take 7 or 8 day cruises (since we both still work), but have taken 3 and 4 day cruises.  The 4-day cruise during Spring Break certainly had its fair share of younger adults doing younger adult things...

But we didn't mind - was very amusing for our people-watching hobby!

Yes, they have a sail away party with group dancing. But that's like one hour. Yes, they have pool activities on the Lido deck, but that's like only 60-90 minutes in the afternoon. Maybe one deck party one day in the evening and again, that's like one hour.

All the rest of the time, people are in their cabins, in the casino, playing bingo, playing trivia, in the gym, eating, hanging out at various places inside or on the other decks. There are not constant conga lines in the corridors. No one is forced to do anything and folks can find a quiet corner and sit and read, talk, etc.

So what do people when they say "party" atmosphere?

The cruisers that say that are the cruise snobs that prefer the pricey “luxury” cruises. I personally found the higher end cruises pretty boring. I’m not into shuffle board and ballroom dancing. And everything shuts down early, no shows and literally nothing to do after 10 pm. But the cruise snobs love to put down the cruise lines with a younger funner crowd. They find the laughter and enthusiasm annoying. I’ll take Carnival or Royal over that any day.
