nymshowdown Posted August 2, 2022 #26 Share Posted August 2, 2022 Was on Majestic July 9 sailing. 2k pax onboard. Internet basically non-existent, was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I was on the Emerald in Jan and Regal in March, both worked perfectly then. Seems like something changed for the worse fleet-wide during the Spring...

Fog has nothing to do with the satellite-based Internet performance. Don't believe it if guest services tells you that, it's just plain wrong!
OccasionalSanta Posted August 3, 2022 #28 Share Posted August 3, 2022 I suspect it may also depend on what you are trying to do. We were on B2B cruises on the Grand from Vancouver to Whittier (Anchorage) and back to Vancouver in June. Since we had to fill out the ArriveCan app in Whittier, we got one day of internet. I would say that I thought response was fine for checking email/surfing, etc. I was not attempting to stream videos or make wifi calls. Also, this was the day that most of the passengers were embarking/disembarking so there may have been less usage overall.

One more thing I will add is that the internet seems poor based on peoples inability to step away from their phones and social media sites for a week and just enjoy the solitude. If everyone was just using it to check email periodically or for emergency purposes, the internet would likely perform better. Summer vacation started and more "internet-savvy" families started going on 7-day cruises.
DCThunder Posted August 3, 2022 #33 Share Posted August 3, 2022 Don't forget that the crew uses the same internet that passengers do for their own purposes. So it's not just 3000 guests trying to connect, but 1500-2000 crew as well.
Rare KKB Posted August 3, 2022 #34 Share Posted August 3, 2022 Not really. On Caribbean Princess last month. I could read emails, scroll Facebook (usually...) and maybe pull up news stories. I essentially could not post on CC. If I could it was one post & then it would get wonky. Honestly seemed like a combo of not so great internet plus that CC on my phone didn't seem to work as well as CC on my laptop.
