Hi, I can't comment on HAL, but would say the Hilton in Moorea is a good choice before a cruise. Moorea is just a dream. There is a ferry to and from Moorea to Papeete every hour when I last went. Papeete is a bit of a let down. O docks pretty close to the ferry terminal.

Papeete itself is home to an industrial port. Not most folks’s idea of “paradise.” However, there’s far more to that island that is comparable to the natural beauty on other of its sister islands across French Polynesia. As for pre/post cruise hotels on Tahiti, consider the Intercontinental Resort in Fa’a’ā.
