Enhanced Driver License for check-in

Can you use an enhanced driver license for your documentation at check-in?  My friend is trying to enter the number on his and it isn't working.

Are you sure it is an EDL, and not a Real ID license?  Only five states have EDL’s.  NC is not one of them, if that is where your friend is from.

If using an EDL, your friend will also need a birth certificate.

Is it a problem with too many digits, or too few digits, or something else?

No, he's in MI.  They have Enhanced License.

No you don't - I've been cruising since 2014 with only my EDL. 

 

ETA: As stated above: make sure the doc has a flag and not a star on it.

Also - the doc ID is not the license number - it's the numbers and letters following USA on the back.

An Enhanced Driver's License is acceptable for a closed loop cruise from Seattle to Alaska.  No birth certificate or other document would be needed. 

 

Glad to hear that the OP's friend is actually from a state that issues Enhanced Driver's Licenses.  There are so many folks who mistakenly believe that their Real ID DL is an Enhanced DL.

 

Just a reminder that Enhanced Driver's Licenses are only issued from these 5 northern border states: MI; MN; NY; VT and WA.
