Gift card to OBC

I received a $300 visa gift card. I found that it can only be used in the US. Should I use it to buy OBC and HAL will return the unused portion to me? I understood from another cruise line, that it will use the gift OBC before it touches the OBC they included. If this is true with HAL, should I take the gift card with me and use it to buy services on board, after my included OBC is used up?  Other suggestions on how to convert this gift card to use for our cruise?

TIA

I would not prepurchase OBC as they will try to rebate any back to the same gift card.  Simply go down to the desk and pay your bill with the gift card before your last day on the cruise or when you have accrued $300 in expenses.  You can prepurchase certain services like internet, dining, shore excursions and more

If you plan to purchase an Internet package for the cruise, you might want to use your gift card to prepurchase it. Only the Premium package is available for prepurchase, but you get a 20% discount by doing so.
