Los Angeles Airport to San Diego

  We received a notification that due to schedule changes, we dont have the time to make our connecting flight from LA to San Diego. Other flight options are limited. We were thinking of keeping the first leg to LA and renting a car to drive to San Diego. It will be early afternoon on a Thursday.  Crazy?

How early afternoon?

 

Your other option is Flyaway bus to Union Station, the"other" LAX, and take Amtrak to SD.

When do you need to be in San Diego? The next day? If so, Amtrak is a possibility. Or, you could stay at an LAX hotel (or some place else of your interest), and rent a car and drive down. Trying to get there in a rush on Thursday afternoon is not going to be fun, traffic wise.

There is no rush. Leaving on a cruise on Saturday.  The plane is scheduled to land at 12:50pm.  I thought we could possibly be on the road by 2:30. Too optimistic?

No, realistic time line. But at that time, your drive could be at least 2.5 hours, perhaps more. Fair amount of traffic.

If you are on the road at 2:30PM I'd say you are facing an ugly 4 hour drive to San Diego. You would be traversing three of the six most populous counties in the U.S.
