Insurance question specific to HAL

I want to book a may 2023 cruise, I want to add the HAL Insurance (because it is " cancel for any reason" and you get 90% back) and not my usual insuremytrip.com  ( we normally don't need cancel for any reason but my father is 87 and I am looking at a cruise costing over $5000

But I don't want to add it to the booking UNTIL just before final payment is due.

Yes, that’s exactly when I buy my insurance, it needs to be purchased at least 1 day before final payment is due.  I never buy my insurance til just about a day or 2 before final payment as i always book a cancellable reservation and my money is 100% refundable up until final payment…..

That’s what I do. I always get the platinum plan. Came in handy when we had to cancel 19 days prior to sailing!

Watch your cancellation penalty date nowadays.  It's not always final payment date, it could be a month earlier.
